Dark Souls 3 and PC Hardware

Unread post by Damienknight »

It comes out on steam this monday! In anticipation (and because my daughter's laptop got fried by Orange Juice deliberatly poured on it by my 2 year old) I have bought a new system. I havent seen any hardware bragging threads. I guess if you're playing a game this old you arent too concerned with pimpin graphics cards or sleek cases, but...

So I spent $370 and got a AMD Vishera 8 Core (3.3 Ghz), 16 GB of 1866 DDR3 and a new case/power supply/motherboard/EVO SSD Gave my old system to my wife, her old system to my son, his old system to my daughter. Hand-me-down crazy time. I only had a few problems (cords had to be rethreaded through case because they wouldnt reach, had to swap around power supplies and system fans between systems to be able to get everything powered in all the systems.)

I am using a Radeon R9 / 270 with 2 GB of video memory. I spent all last night juggling around parts and getting everything connected, and istalling OS and downloading games. Hopefully tonight I will try it out on NWN2. I think my old setup already was playing it on full settings, but it will be the first test of the new system.

My old system was struggling hard with Fallout 4 and I knew it couldnt handle Dark Souls 3. Anyone have any pimpin systems they built and want to brag on?

Anyone else as pumped about Dark Souls 3 as I am?

I played DS and DS2 on PS3 and loved them both. DS was much harder and probably better all around, but DS2 had interesting levels and improved multiplayer, and so many damn quality expansions. The expansions really made DS2 closer in difficulty to DS1 imho.

Anyway, psyched and ready to die over and over again. Good thing I have BGTSCC to come back to when I get frustrated and feel like throwing my new steam controller through the monitor.

Played DS3 some on a coworker's JP-PS4, didn't feel all too different from the previous games.

DS2 was a definite improvement over 1. 3 I feel is somewhere marginally better. The graphic fidelity is welcoming but the gameplay mechanics could've had a bit more thoughtful consideration. Fortunately, 3 is supposed to be less 'port-like' for the PC. As I tried it on a console, I couldn't confirm that claim.

First impressions on PC version:

The new (old if you played Demon Souls) Force Points system (basically Mana instead of # of casts per spell) is awesome.

Dodging is more dodgy. They extended the invulnerability frames for dodges and made it easier to chain dodges together. Very mobile feeling during a fight, I like it!

Added some analog to some weapons power attacks. If you hold the attack, they chamber the strike and hold it a moment before attacking. I can see that really being devious against Players who parry alot.

Graphics are more detailed.

Gameplay otherwise feels the same. Which is to say fluid, punishing and fun!
