Dervish lore & regions.

Does anyone have any suggestions for regions from which a dervish could originate?
There doesn't seem to be much of a dervish lore.

I know Nine Hells the best, not FR (probably because I like Nine Hells/Planescape more).

Would be interested in non-jungle somewhat deserted region. Preferably: rocks OR steppe OR gray sand, this kind of thing. Not a frozen desert, not an african one. Something mildly unwelcoming without lush vegetation.

You could use Dervish as a replacement for the Eilistraeean Sword Dancer class (minus the divine spellcasting progression). So... Underdark and northern Sword Coast.

Why do you guys keep trying to turn my character into elistraean elf? ^_^ You're second person with this idea. Just kidding.

Although being close to elves or some areas where underdark/half-drow appear often would help.

Calis hites or the Bedine of the Anauroch desert would both be good bets.

For desert/badland type areas, there's Calimshan, Anarauch, Thay, Mulhorand.

Thay is more rocks/steppes instead of sandy desert, but it's not a land very suitable for nomads so that would probably be a problem.

I could see a Dervish coming from the Gur people, maybe?

That would allow you to tie in geographically with just about anywhere you'd like in the Western Heartlands/Coast.
