Suggestion: Dragonspear Castle

Dragonspear Castle is being worked on by tfunke, and should be in game soonish from what I understand. Dragonspear is one of the more exciting places in the region so I'm personally eagerly awaiting for it to appear. From what I saw the castle will be CR9.

I have spoken to several people lately, and the general consensus seems to be that there is a lack of epic dungeons. So here's what I propose:

A portal can be placed in Dragonspear which is active and connects to one of the nine hells. Beyond the portal lies a truly epic dungeon (it's one of the hells after all). It should be filled with various outsiders, several "mini bosses" and the main boss, probably a pit fiend (yes, yes, we already have two :( ). The pit fiend should be a named one, and have personality (through his battle dialogue or something similar), it should also be in the range of the white dragon in difficulty. Once a group slays the pit fiend, the portal in Dragonspear is closed for a time. Let's say an hour? Two maybe? A reset cycle? Not sure which would be most fitting. I would also probably make it so that the portal can't be accessed unless you have at least 5+ people in your group, this should prompt people to spend time seeking others out even if they are playing a pb which can clear half the "dungeon" on its own. Also, if more groups gather for it, they can do it together since this shouldn't really be about xp but rather about epic (cr30+) content. Maybe the pit fiend can give a lot of xp to everyone present (~1k) regardless of numbers? I'm not sure if that can be done.

Thoughts? Would one of our dear world-builders be interested in making something like this (tfunke)?

I love a multiple area dungeon that REQUIRES 4 or more people to survive. +1 fron me.
I played on a NWN1 where it had something similiar. It was a four part dungeon which ultimately lead you to the city of Shade where you battled one of the Shadovar Princes. Every mob spawn was epic, i mean Mords, Greater Ruin, Hellball, DR, Spell Res. kind of epic. But that wasn't even the hard part. The hardest part was being able to access said dungeon. You needed 8 shards that were found in various shard chests in varying CR dungeons. Each shard chest you could only loot once per reset and even then there was a percentage drop where you'd get a corrupted shard and not a real shard. Some shard chests were unbashable with a sky high DC lock meaning you needed to make friends with epic lock tech. Some shard chests could only be opened by casting certain spells on it and others could only be found during certain times of the server clock. And, to top it off, once you gather all the shards, you must "use" them in a certain area in a certain order which was hidden in a very good riddle.

Now that was epic end game content.

Thids suggestion is great and is something i would like to see as well. It all depends on the devs having time to implement it though :)

It is a great idea Thids, but I personally have just burned myself out redoing Durlag's. I did an entire Durlag's dungeon remake, in a week and a half of solid building. Until you see it though, I don't expect that to mean much.
The thought at the moment, is simply to move the old Durlag's dungeon to be the interior for Dragonspear (with new spawns). Time will tell.

Nice whats the CR of the new Durlags? Will it be an epic dungeon with:

Doors/hidden rooms that require runes to open?
Hundreds Dozens of epic level traps that do 500 200 dmg if you fail the save?
Epic level enemies?

Some of it is. I'd love to be more specific but I'd rather let it be a surprise.

Ah, sorry to hear that. Maybe an idea for a future project then, if you or someone else gets the motivation for it.

An area on a layer of the Nine Hells where UDers and surfacers can meet? That could be extremely interesting  :D

Instead of the Hells, what if the portal took us to the Abyss? The end boss could be a Demon Lord and, when appropriate DM's could even put metaplot details available. For instance, the end boss could be Gresil, the Demon Lord custodian of records and via defeating this Demon Lord perhaps the players could screenshot and send to a DM, searching the archives. (for example.

There are soooo many demon lords and defeating them is not going to get rid of them for good, plus for events the area could perhaps be used and a unique demon thrown in... Waukeen is eventually taken captive by Graz'zt so wouldn't it be neat a few years down the road if history of the realms is changed by an intrepid group of adventurers managing to get to the abyss to rescue her?

Even better. An area where an endless Blood War battle is taking place? Or plus some connection to the Abyss and/or the Nine Hells. Maybe a portal in the UD leading to the Abyss and another on the surface leading to the Nine Hells (or vice versa) and the War Blood Battle between these two areas...

Too many exciting and dangerous possibilities

The Dragonspear portal leads to Avernus, first layer of Baator. It's ruled over by this lovely couple. It's Baator's front line in the Blood War, facing constant battles and skirmishes under a sky that constantly rains fireballs on the doomed combatants below.

I wouldn't want to go there without an army (preferably led by an arrogant Aasimar), so a party of at least four sounds like a good start.
Hidden: show
If I recall correctly, the ending video of Planescape: Torment sees the Nameless One travelling to Avernus to take his part in the Blood War. Maybe he can make a cameo as well.
