Do you roleplay your characters armor?

Do people roleplay the armor type their character wears? I understand in pnp full plate slows you down quite a bit i.e right? I got so bothered with it that I had to build my latest character to use light armor so I didn't feel silly as he runs around tirelessly all the time and travels miles on end without collapsing. I know I stopped a dungeon crawl or two to take off full plate before swingging over the chasm in Cloakwood mine. Am I the only one?

Not suggesting any mechanical nerfing here. Things are fine as they are. Just curious if other people feel and do the same.

I've only ever witnessed some RP their armor once. And that was Aelcar's Paladin

Plate armor, while heavy and certainly encumbering, is designed to be able to be worn and moved around in all day. It's no more difficult to wear than the gear modern soldiers carry. It's certainly a significant weight that you would probably want to take off when you don't need it (so, when just idling in the city, there's not a whole lot of reason to be wearing your armor), but the main issue with plate armor is in exhaustion (which is countered by higher physical attributes).

If you are still carrying it with you when you swing, you're not changing anything. If anything, you're making it even harder to swing because you no longer have an even weight distribution.

What is more problematic IMO? Carrying around dozens of different weapons at the same time. Yet you see far more people with descriptions describing wearing a greatsword and bow on the back and two or three swords at the hip.

I roleplay my characters' armor in the sense that I only wear heavier armors when combat is actually expected, because it's pointlessly tiring to wear it all day when you're not actually going into battle.

My characters always have a dagger in their backpack. They'll never use it in combat, but it's the sort of item everyone should have.

Yeah, RPed leaving it there and fighting those lizardmen in underwear! (Being buffed to Demigod status helped quite a bit.)

Yeah, most of my characters have a mudane dagger under a cloak or somewhere else concealed. Never know when you meed one.

I do. Usually in passive ways (when you examine the characters, I usually detail material, quality, wear, and other oddities in their description) and sometimes in active ways like descriptively and actually removing armor at the end of an adventuring day.

I do a bit, but perhaps not enough.

As Rhifox posted, plate is not so detrimental to mobility as one might think, and high strength and constitution characters (particularly when reading superhuman levels with magic or epic training) can probably move fine in it. However it remains bulky and heavy, so there are elements that should be RP'ed (I've seen Miasmata RP chairs creaking when his paladin sits down!).

In my own character's case, his armour has a strength bonus which I RP as allowing easier movement than he would otherwise enjoy (mechanically represented; he is encumbered when not wearing it!).

I do tend to RP him getting out of armour when safe for reasons of comfort. When he wears armour in what is notionally a safe place, it is usually because he is fulfilling a guard function.

Taking the armour on and off is a major undertaking. I rarely RP doing it for 10 minutes! But I do tend to Rp it as an extended procedure. I also have my character accept help with this. Lacking squires, its usually someone who hasnt a clue how plate mail works

I've RP'ed armour cleaning, and the requirement for repair after taking a beating. However I cannot say I have been ubiquitous with this.

I have seen quite a few players RP over armour in similar ways in fact!

Other than RPing the weight here and there when my character sits down on a feeble wooden chair or rping the theatrical removal and donning of gauntlets? No, not really. I used to do it on a few characters in the past but with my current character I don't really have the privilege of having a safe place to walk around without armor, other than a guild hall.

Historically plate armor didn't get excessively heavy until it had to be proofed against firearms.

It might get hot in the desert but that has more to do with what you wear underneath it.

i would consider my main character Clint to be the one who get's the most rp and i've been called out for a few things one is unlike most the capes knights wear he wears a backpack, the reason for this is becuase my PNP dm caught my cloak 9 times in one session in a door so i said okay by by +4 protection cloak and got a backpack with no AC never got it stuck in a door again ((had 4 diffrent clerics check for cursing on me or it no avail))

as for armor i do role play it to the point where even a few were caught with the surprises it holds.

in the end it's about you and the bond to your character and that's it

I roleplay my armor when I'm an eldritch knight. Zygon makes sure to emote putting on his armor after casting spells, usually time 2 minutes to put it on after warding.
