How do adventuring parties work? and Adventuring Party #??

Unread post by fearknight2003 »

Simple question first: How do adventuring parties work? You have a group of people, they meet up IG once a week or so, only play together except to catch up? Am I right on that?

Second... does anyone want to form an adventuring party? If so, here is how I think it would work:

1. Make new characters and start at level 1 for it.
2. No playing on your own unless you are more than 1 level behind the average.
3. Post your current XP total on this thread after any time playing.
4. Say what kinda character you want to play- that is, healer, tank, mage, or rogue. Also say your char's name.
5. Death is treated as 'unconscious' unless you die and want to stay dead.
6. It's a good-neutral party.
7. Serious RP is the thing. We are not just trying to get a million XPs
8. If you die in PvP and the aggressor makes an RP action like *finishes him off*, that's dead.

Make sure you check this OP for any important messages.

If this does happen, I'll be a wizard, though I'm fine with a cleric.

Current Players and Their XP Counts:

fearknight2003 - Athren Lihar - 0 XP
Evilar - Baltizaar - 0 XP
aaron22 - Gale - 4500 XP

Personally I am considering playing a fighter/mage type of character and would prefer
1.No muling but classic D&D style where you carry your own stuff.
2. No power-leveling or grinding but pure roleplaying adventuring, logically with a purpose to solve some Baldur's gates problems.
3. Initially meeting in the Elfwing Tavern (Roleplaying purposes) and begin talking about the problems we heard were going in Baldur's Gate

Baldur's Gate Orphan Crisis
Baldur's Gate Reconstruction Efforts
Sword Coast Intrigue Plots
Sword Coast Relief & Recovery
Recovery of the Plagued Wilds

4. Then take assignments we can handle logically and progress from there gaining a reputation as a group that can get things done.

5. If you are interested I am available most days starting at 1600 GMT - 0400 GMT

Just my thoughts and maybe someone that reads will answer my post/question about the Board. Have a good night.

This sounds good to me. Read the original post for changes I made that I forgot to put the first time.

Ok just re-read your OP.

1. Concerning Perma-death, I would be more comfortable with unconscious and be allowed to be drag by party back to town, camp, etc (I need to investigate the mechanic more on this server, I know there is really no Perma-Death in NWN2 having played it several times)

2. I personally want to maintain some mystery on individuals (my own) background, so no posting publicly your FULL background to keep down the meta-gaming which I think is anti-roleplaying. We kind of heard of each other and found out that we are all interested in doing something about the issues and go from there.

Alright, sounds good. I'll alter the OP again.

Personally I just consider this a running conversation between you, me and anyone else that is interested so I don't think you need to keep changing the original post. The people that are interested will read the conversation was we go.

Its Sunday night and the premiere of AGOT so I don't expect too many others to chime but I'm fine with that. I don't see it as something that needs to be rushed anyway nor would because I want the right party that want to do this. Max. 5

Yeah, that'll save time. I'll just change the OP to reflect the final decisions.

If by max 5, you mean a maximum of 5 people, I agree.

You want to play a Fighter/Mage? I was thinking a wizard focused on Alchemy, Abjuration, and Enchantment for me. Do you know what you'll name your character yet?

Probably Baltazar. I don't know if you have read Dragonlance but my thought for the initial meeting is like the first book.

I have not read Dragonlance. Is it good? Who wrote it?

Admittedly, my reasons for wanting to be a mage are only partly based on RP...
Half of it is the new enchanting system is looking freaking awesome.
Part is that wizards are amazingly awesome.
Another part is RP-related; if he's giving powerful weapons he made himself to his friends, it's a bit more meaningful than that +3 longsword you buy on the Consignment Shop.

Excellent! One of the quintessential fantasy series in the last 30 years. Margaret Weiss & Tracy Hickman who both worked for TSR (The company that created D&D) created this series with bringing to life their roleplaying characters. It is a best selling series and you can listen to the audiobooks on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3VHzgl ... WGjHpekmKO

Gotcha, nice. How are you planning on role playing the enchanting and justifying the change in enchanting. I am personally of a mind that enchanted items need to be rare and have a purpose for existing. In every fantasy novel that I have ever read there was a reason for someone obtaining a powerful magic item or an extremely high price payed (In blood, effort or gold) to obtain it. That is probably something I am going to integrate in any future games I DM (not on this server but in other locales)

Those are my thoughts.

I thought that the creation of the magic items was a long, difficult ritual. Y'know, with the gold cost I see on the spells and the fact that you need to make a check against a DC that gets harder with tougher enchantments.

True, if that is the way they run it here but my thought are to things such as:
1. The Rings of Power in The Lord of the Rings, "Sting" which was sword from the Kingdom of Gondolin as well as Gandalf's sword Glamdring, they were unique items not easily obtained or created with a fabulous lore behind them.

2. Stormbringer, Elric of Melnibone's vampric sword. One of the focal points of the entire of series of books.

3. Artemis Entreries's Vampric dagger that he obtain by very arduous effort

After further reading here on the forum, I see that magic items are handle basically like in any video game; ok, so then I can set my expectations accordingly as fair as roleplaying.

That is what I mean.
To use Legend of Drizzt, I think it's more like Aegis-fang in Crystal Shard
