Rune of Vitriol is not working

I'm a level 12 sorc and i just picked up rune of vitriol. I had acid fog as one of my known 6th level spells as well as melfs acid arrow, yet when i go to use the rune of Vitriol it says i don't have an appropriate spell memorized. any ideas?
