Trying again: The Chronomancer

So here I go again, revisiting my long-standing desire to create a BGTSCC version of a Chronomancer (2e mage). I've tried it before, but waaaaaaay back when there wasn't Arch Mage, nor the new Spells from the Big Update of 2016.

Besides the general Chronomancer type, my goal with this Character is chronomancy, to pursue the Chronomancy Spells (even if they are not ingame now, it gives me some IC reason to pursue "creating" them), thus also making a Diviner/Abjurist/Transmuter mage.

Whew! *breaths*

BGTSCC doesn't have the Time Domain, unfortunately, but does have Travel, and Fate, which is cool. So, should I decide to add Cleric to my build, I could have the Character worship Hoar, and pick up Travel and Fate as RP tools (cause I'm not thinking to build a lvl 30 Cleric).

What I am thinking of is Wizard / Arcane Scholar / Arch Mage / X. With the new Rules rewritten, and Arch Mage becoming open to any build, I can choose X for power, or for RP. Choosing Shadowdancer is rather simple but the most OP to choose, in my opinion. Pick up Evasion and HiPS, which could be RP'd as Chronomancing through time! lol. Or, I could go Cleric 3 and get those Domains.

I guess it may be possible to create a Dark Chronomancer and go Wizard / AcS / Arch Mage / Shadow Adept. This most likely BAD IDEA would NOT fit a mage focusing on Transmutation. lol.

With the Schools my Character would focus in, Conjuration is opposed. The pity here is that Teleportation is classified as a Sub-school of Conjuration, which opposes Divination/Abjuration. With the new ability to hand pick opposing schools, how or what should be the best choice for my Character, especially if I want to Teleport?

Another few "requirements" to the character is: Epic Counterspelling, not Abilities below 10, and if I can manage it, Air Genasi. Humans are so...2015.

Oh btw...another loooooong time ago, there was a discussion on the Forum about "adjustments" to the Power Word spells. I tried a Forum Search but was DENIED a result. lol. I wonder it that could be found on the QC forums? Also, anyone have any short list of the new divination/abjuration/transmutation spells added in the Big Update?

Cheers.

Im the worst at building so can't contribute much but just wanted to give huzzah for the idea. Very nice, Steve. Quite original and interesting.

Hmmmm

Actually, with the latest spell batch I thought of trying out a Force Mage again. But alas, i realized one thing: I suck at playing a caster lol its too tedious for me

Well, here is my somewhat unsatisfying first draft on the build of the Character:

Don't know how "chronomancer" this feels, but I'm getting there. I'm still considering how best to juggle a abjuration/divination/transmutation mage. Seems a tall order!!

If you're still looking for a spell school to drop with few drawbacks, go Necromancy. It's easier to live without undead summons/avasculate/enfeeblement/wail than to go without conjuration summons/teleport, or illusion buffs.

Right. And the situation now on BGTSCC is one can choose their opposing schools?

Yep! Just activate the Feat "Choose Opposition Spell School" at level one and you're good to go (you will have the NWN2 default prohibited spell school until you do). Note that once this choice has been made, it cannot be undone without an RCR.

Necromancy it shall be!!

Yeah, an extra 9 spells by School Focusing is pretty sweet!

I'm still trying to figure out if Epic Counterspelling really merits the investment—especially without Time Domain on BGTSCC, which would/should grant Improved Initiative—or for a Chronomancer-type, Epic Spell Penetration (considering the Divination Power Word spells check against that). Or even, just a bunch of INTs or Epic spells?!?

I'm trying to build a Counter-speller myself. and its an investment to be sure.

Improved Initiative
Improved Counterspelling
Reactive Counterspelling
Epic Counterspelling
Mastery of Counterspelling

Thats some serious investment for a class without too many feats. You can ofcause go Wizard for some bonus feats, but when taking into consideration that you need 3 feats to even qualify for archmage, which is needed for mastery of counterspelling, it becomes a doozy to pull of. Then ofcause if you want metamagic! well, best of luck with that :D

Where did you find the requirements for Mastery of Counterspelling?

Memory. I stumbled upon it in Jegs once, back when Jegs was working >.>.
I could only pick it as an Archmage feat. And it was once listed (on the forum) under Archmage feats, just crossed over. no-more tho. However "good" news be that it only required Improved Counterspelling. So in Essense it went something like this.

Counterspelling - Everyone has
Improved Counterspelling - Requires Counterspelling
Reactive Counterspelling - Requires Improved Initiative & Improved Counterspelling
Epic Counterspelling - Requires Reactive Counterspelling.
Mastery of Counterspelling (Archmage) - Improved Counterspelling.

Without the Time Domain (granting Improved Initiative) in-game on BGTSCC, it looks like the best build supporting my idea—so far...—is Wizard / Arcane Scholar / Arch Mage / Monk. Yes, again...monk for the win!!

Any additional feedback is welcome.
