A goodbye, at least for now

I will try and make this as undramatic as possible. I was until this morning (upon resigning my commission) DM Galatea, maker of chickens as well as attempted and half arsed storyteller.

I resigned, to be blunt, because of the behaviour of a substantial minority who seem to view the DM team as enemies to be abused and as a customer service entity. The other DMs who are overwhelmingly calm, decent, entirely anti-conspiratorial people who are far better, more tolerant human beings than I am. Those who abuse them are loud, annoying and frankly get far too much attention.

The DM team are not the demons that they are made out to be. They debate decisions at length, even when people like myself want to make them quickly. More often than not, the older and wiser DMs have stopped snap decisions that people like myself would have made, in the interests of fairness. Sometimes, to the point of excess. The amount of leaway given to conspiratorial, frankly delusional elder members is sympathetic to the point of self harming. Keep that in mind when you see an ancient player waxing lyrical about ancient DM abuses. There are few, if any, DMs remaining from that time.

To my fellow DMs, you were a lovely little team. You're much better people than I am. We didn't always agree and I was probably a little more fiery than I should have been, but I don't regret things. You also have far thicker skins than I.

To the people who I was DMing - I've passed my stories on to the other DMs in the staff. With any luck they will continue. This includes my planning and my synopsis thus far.

To the players I spent a lot of time with, you're all lovely people. Don't let people get you down. This is a decision I've made for my own emotional and mental health. I may be back, but it won't be under this name and it won't be until long after my PhD is finished.

I only really had one main character - my mop-knight, Reine. I will be killing her off and will be permadeathing her. That will be the last bit of storyline RP. I will stick around and people can roleplay with her for a bit. After that, I will be taking my leave. I hope people enjoy this last act of pseudo DMing. The DMs also have her sword which was actually quite nice. Hopefully that will find its way into the hands of a wonderful player :)

Those who weren't wonderful players? Those who harass the DMs, cause trouble, rules lawyer endlessly and have a rap sheet in the offenders registry as long as my arm? Well. Make it up for yourself.

I wish those of you who are good, honest and nice to me both in game and on the DM client the best.

Much love,

Mopknight/Reine/Galatea

Well, I hope you get better eventually, but I will miss you.

As far as I knew, you were a great player and great DM.

Going to miss you.

Although Ive never been a part of any of your events or RP'd with Reine, thank you for having stepped up to bring the world to life for the players. I understand where you are coming from; its the very same reason why I decided not to DM after my application was approved. Hopefully you'll return and find enjoyment in this world you helped out with. Take care!

P.s. Good luck with the PhD!

*sighs* Goodbye Galatea.. I have to say I always loved Reine and I've missed seeing her around since you became a DM. Now knowing she is gone for good is a real kick in the bumm. You were passionate and fiery as a DM, I hate that that same fiery passion is what led to a burn out. Look forward to seeing you around when you decide you miss your home here.

Goodbye for now,

Reine was a great character and your RP of her was fantastic. I am hoping you decide to come back. This is truly a sad day we have now lost two great players, Great characters and a DM I never even got to know...

<3 Good luck with your PhD

I'm sorry about your bad experiences, I know all too well what it's like being fiery especially around people who make me question my faith in humanity. I didn't really role play much with you, but from what I did see of Reine she was interesting and well played, thanks for taking up the job of being a DM for us.

Go well DM Galatea. Thank you for your time and service to our community, and thank you for the RP you generated with my character Boris. I won't forget it, and will remember you fondly from our interactions together.

I wish you all the best with your PhD. I always loved our roleplay and selfishly hope you'll come back some day, in some capacity.

Be well.

Damn it Mopknight! *shakes fist*

I enjoyed the interactions I had with Reine, even if Telia and Reine never really did get on. You played Reine as the people's paladin and it did show. It showed quite well indeed, sometimes

I am sad to see you go, if the minority of people who are toxic were really the reason. You have probably seen the things I myself have endured on the server and I have to say, it has been very tough at times and even now, there are people trying to have a go at certain members of the community including myself. However, one good DM once told me that giving up makes the bad guys win - and I was and am not willing to do that. When I as a DM, I always argued for taking off the silk gloves. I am a soft, caring person... but people in the community should not suffer from the actions of a few. I hope the DM team sees this, as there has been quite a bit of toxicity lately, especially on the forums.

Stepping back sometimes though, is the best action. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do in the future and that your PhD goes smoothly and without much cursing.

I hope you will return one day and I reckon we will still be here then.

You and your RP will be missed. I hope Reine does not slip away too quickly; I do hope she also gets a suitably memorable send off, I intend to help make it so in so far as I am able

First words I said when I saw this post are not suitable to write here. Suffice it to say that you'll be beyond missed. I'll PM you the rest when I calm down.

Losing you [expletive] sucks.

Never ran an event with you, played with you, or knew you. With that said, its always a bummer to see someone go from our already small community. Good luck with your future, hope to see you return as this mop knight, and always remember.. Life is too short to hold grudges. Smile! :D
