Nathan did everything with his sister Celine. While his childhood was filled with fond memories of their time playing together, their favorite past time was sparring. Neither ever bested the other, and even though they went back and forth, they never gained any ground on the other. When the reached adulthood, their father decided to let the siblings travel with him on business, and despite constant threats from bandits and raiders, the siblings never backed down from a fight. Preferring to fight back to back, they defended the caravans bravely.
When Nathan married, he and his sister only grew closer. They continued to travel with the caravan, and one day, tragedy struck. Orc raiders swarmed the caravan. Once again, Nathan and Celine forced the raiders back, but it was not without casualties. When Nathan found his wife with an orcish arrow protruding from her chest, something inside him shattered. Despite his family's efforts to comfort him, there was an emptiness within him. They continued their journey, and when they returned home, he quietly packed a few belongings and departed.
He wandered without a destination for weeks before he came to a village under siege. Without thinking, he rushed to the villager's aid. He vanquished several orc invaders before the village fell. He helped those that he could as they made their way to a nearby guard post, but a vast majority of the village had fallen to the attackers. He now had his reason for traveling. He found something to fill the hole within him. Killing orcs brought him satisfaction. Nathan once again set off, this time tracking the merciless orc raiders to their home. Once there, he attacked all that he seen without worrying about his own life. For weeks he fought the orcs until he finally destroyed them all.
As Nathan traveled north, his sister Celine stumbled over his trail. He was filled with joy at seeing her, but when she asked him to return home, he just could not. He offered a duel. If she could best him, he would return home, but if she could not, she would let him continue his journey. His skill was now far beyond her own. As they clashed, he played with her. It was nothing like when they would spar, he would tease her with false openings and disarm her over and over. Seeing the extent of her abilities, he ended the match by maiming her. Despite her physical pain, it hurt him more. No longer filled with joy, he demanded that Celine leave him alone and return home, for the next fight, she will not walk away. He left her his rapier and headed north once more.
Nathan's travels eventually brought him to Baldur's Gate, where he continued to hunt orcs.
