What is a Solar Channeler?

Unread post by V'rass »

So I noticed the class kit option thingy and when I clicked on it offered to make me (in this case) a solar channeler. Not knowing what it was I did not try it so I ask you... what is it and can I try it?

QC is experimenting with class kits.

If you're able to select them, then something probably went wrong with the updates -- or if you select it, it won't actually work for you right this second.

Either way, I'd hold off on taking this until it's been announced as released, as it could be possible to wind up with a broken character otherwise.

I'll check with Rasael and QC on whether or not this is actually supposed to be an option for players right now.

This paladin/cleric kit cannot be selected, not even by QC, at the moment due to the prerequisite of an Angel's Feather, an item which can only be granted by a DM.

All kits currently included in the recent update (Cavalier, Divinate, Monk of the Long Death) are currently QC access only for testing and fine tuning. Players may have access to the kit conversations but they (should!) be unable to activate progression in any given kit.

Ohio I hope there are some barbarian kits coming as they are the class that needs the most help imo. People really over value that d12 hd and the minor Dr they get.

Not to derail the thread even further, but will there be Warlock Kits introduced to cover the different pacts?

Its an upcoming feature. Kits are what PRCs used to be in 2nd edition. The difference on BGTSCC is that they act as subsitution levels or as class variants, or sub classes. A PRC on the other hand is an entirely new and separated class.

Thanks Rasael! Exciting stuff in the oven! Don't suppose we could get a glimpse of the various kits pending QC?

We have the following kit list for the initial release of that system,
  • Paladin
    - Cavalier
    - Solar Channeler
    - Divinate

    Cleric
    - Solar Channeler

    Monk
    - Long Death Monk
Apart from that I have plans for the following kits,
  • - Sun Soul Monk
    - Triadic Knight
    - Beastmaster
And more are being discussed.

There definitely will be, particularly as they are closer to live release. At the moment QC is still working on details with Rasael.

They're essentially meant to add variety to some of the base classes by giving people a new way to play them (if they want to -- the base classes will all still be fully available in vanilla flavor as well).

(this could be written a lot better, but I'm on my phone)

I would like to see a cleric kit that gives up medium and heavy armor, shields, and blunt weapons in exchange for proficiency with all swords, and maybe grants weapon focus with deity's weapon, and/or evasion, and/or a Dodge bonus to AC.
