Baldur's Gate : The Sword Coast Chronicles : NWN2 Persistent World

Simply because I want to promote scholarship on our PW and, given the (often) hours it takes to compile an IC book, time which could otherwise be spent in RP, I feel it would be a good boon for players to be rewarded for IC books with a small XP bump (or GP for 30's).

I'm thinking in the order of 200-500xp/gp, depending on the quality of the work, which shall be entirely up to the DMs judgment.

A cap can be set per month per character, kept in a DM-side log, so any such system cannot be exploited or else cause too much of a burden on the DM team to reward them.

Agree with it, and it would give an incentive to write books. Of course I would only give xp after controlling the quality of the book. So it would add a bit of work to the DMs.

Can we have candlekeep take the books found in game for a minor exp/go? Say 25xp/25gp with no cap since you would have to turn them in. Just thought it would be neat to put the random trash drops to use. Thoughts?

Or, if one where to collect an entire series of related books, they could get a Level or some fantastic magic item reward!

I'm totally serious. One of my toons has been collecting books for ages!

I'd love to see this! It'd make sense for Candlekeep to be the reward point for books; as it stands now, some PCs bring their books to CK for RP reasons, and we CK folks give a bit more (of our own) gold than do the shops.

I also like Tsidkenu's original idea, because I do think that PCs who take the time to do things to promote RP should be rewarded.

That would be great. I had wondered if there should not be more clickables ala the mushrooms and leaves that use survival, but for other skill rolls. Like lore checks inside of a library.

I like the idea of offering a small XP reward for written books IG. There are already rewards offered for those who write articles for newspapers (started back when there were two newspapers). I think I made use of it once and have not since, because my character is lvl 30. But it is a nice gesture for the effort.


As for the book purchases... are there not gem merchants who pay a little more for gems? Maybe the same code or whatever it is can be used for books?

Sorry. It is a large task to get great content in using the books system, I agree there should be be a way to incentivise and reward players for it. If but for the time expended not being able to play.

Mechanicly, I don't even know if possible but would as reward an experience for RP Xp modifier be worthwhile to put in as well? Getting higher base RP exp ticks or higher Cap per reset for the character used?
