Zika is already here in sunny, hot, humid Florida.
Go Team USA.

The doping scandals puts a sad veil over it for me. I can only wonder what other countries have the resources to do this on a large scale, besides Russia. China and the USA comes to mind, and especially the latter has a worrying history of world stars being caught sooner or later that could just have driven the sophistication of doping further.
What are the events you watch? If I watch anything, it's mostly only the running competitions.

I'm Australian but I'm only going to be watching Usain Bolt. Absolute freak! As far as I'm concerned, everyone else is probably on drugs ...
Edit: Actually, I may watch Michelle Jenneke and some women's beach volleyball.

Since there's no hockey I probably won't watch much.
Unless there's some new scandal, then I'll grab the popcorn bowl.

It is nice that South America finally does organize the Olympic Games. It was about time. Unfortunately due to the following circumstances I won't be watching the olympic games this time:
Brazil is just a mess, politically, economically, etc. These games come at one of the worst moments for this football country.
Besides these games are just a shadow of what they could be. Thanks to the fascist traitor Samaranch it is just a well oiled machine of generating revenue. He organized the corruption and still today there is no sign that it might change.
Who wants to be involved with such a monstrosity? Too many just look the other way.
For instance how is it possible that McDonalds and Coca-Cola are even allowed to sponsor the games? Two of the unhealthiest enterprises in the world. Well, the answer is easy: money.
Thus, the games aren't about participating or sports...

I was -very- disappointed with the Matildas' 2-0 loss to Canada, esp. given that the Canadians were a lady down for 71 minutes of the game. Satisfied with a draw against the German ladies 2-2, but it could so nearly have been a 2-1 win! Matildas are now in the precarious situation of requiring Canada to beat Germany, and then to beat Zimbabwe themselves to nudge ahead of Germany in their pool.
[Edit] Yay, Australia's first medal! Bronze in the Team Archery! That is surprising!

I'm sure a lot of people love the Olympics, but personally I don't see the reason for them. I mean, its expensive and often causes controversy, especially when hosted by nations that can't foot the bill or have social unrest problems or corruption. A lot of money is obviously being made in the shadows in bets and gambling, and the Olympics lacks a proper and independent organization to check for doping.
Frankly, why don't we just stop the Olympics? But maybe I just don't see something others do.
