Long overdue thanks from Rok

By now I imagine there are only a handful of people left on BG who interacted with me and remember Jonas Rokranon, and that's okay. He has long since lost any importance, and that's how it should be as so many of you have taken on the mantle of story telling.
As my daughter enters her sophomore year and my son starts second grade, I got to remembering back to when my son was a newborn and I first stumbled upon BGTSCC in the dead of night when my wife was exhausted and just needed sleep as my son had croup. I knew next to nothing about role-playing then, and it showed, but I stuck with Jonas anyway and began to enjoy myself. I made some friends, some of which I still have even years removed from the server.
Unfortunately at a certain point I gave too much to the game: too much attention, too much time. It was causing problems and let's just say I had to stop playing or my life would have taken a very different path. I've come back to visit from time to time and never stick around because one thing or another ends up needing my attention, but the experiences I had with everyone who role-played with me have stuck with me as I have transitioned over to entirely pen-and-paper sessions in the last few years. I've taught my daughter how to play (she likes sorcs, wha??), and now my son wants his first set of polyhedral dice and to learn as well. I have a great pen-and-paper group who have been in my homebrew campaign for four years and allowed me to tell a story that I've wanted to tell since I was in school. It's a sprawling morass (ask Charraj), but it's a hell of a lot of fun. That wouldn't be happening if not for my time here.
So thank you, BGTSCC, for helping me develop my first (and still favorite) role-play character and teaching me so much not only as a player, but as a DM and even as a person as well. Thanks to you, the story of Jonas Rokranon, paladin of Torm, has continued on through his son Eldaenir and even several generations later in the 5e timeline.

Good to hear it bud. Good to hear from ya. It's weird right? People you've never really met that you get to know over a long period of time. Just announced that we are expecting #3... which is nuts since I had 0 kids when i started playing this here with you guys.
Thanks for the good times bud!

That right there was BGTSCC's -first ever- level 30 character, Jonas Rokranon, and deserved every single cent of RP respect (including the time he nearly got butt-wiped by a lvl 17 sorcerer. . .)
Rokranon, I still miss your presence here but I fully understand why you made the choices you did. All of us, all of us, at some point are going to make that call to bring our time on BGTSCC to an end. For some it will be sooner, others when the very last dregs of the barrel run dry who-knows-when.
Some might wonder what we truly gained from the hours of storytelling we have spent here; others still might question the value of it in the scheme of things. But places, communities, like BGTSCC are a part of what makes us human. We live in community, actual or virtual. We value the power of imagination, creativity and the thrill of plunging forth into the unknown realm of as-yet-untold stories. These are what bring us back, time and again, a vain attempt to sate that unquenchable thirst of the joint-storytelling experience. But I know that for as long as the human race endures, even when our stories are eventually forgotten, relegated to the dust of history, there will never be an end of them.
Thank you both, you and Leslie, and thanking you for enriching all of our lives with your imaginative geniuses.

Ah good ol. Jonas... glad to know your doing well and introducing a new generation of dragon slayers. You were a legend even when I came here in 2009... and I still cherish the times my blue teifling warlock got to interact with you... especially when Jonas gently shuffled away a few seats when za'than decided to set down next to him on the front seats of the theater. Good times!
Life happens to us all... yet the time spent on the server can have a major impact on us. I met my better half on the server, and where time (work/life in general) has taken a larger priority than slaying dragons... I think a lot of us still have a special place in out hearts for BGTSCC.
Thank you for catching us up with your life

. Even to this day we speak of you and Jonas fondly.

Certainly do remember you, even though our RP interactions were limited (yet memorable. The good kind of memorable - enjoyable). Quite simply, your character was and is such a legend that when mine first started he heard many, many tales of Jonas as the exemplar paladin; and has passed those tales on, as further paladins have stepped forward. He may not be played now but he is still of relevance, part of server history.
I also know you are a solid, fair minded guy OOC from what chats we have had and I can only heartily approve of raising the next generation of D&D fanatics!

One of the very first characters Elvina ever RP'ed with here on BG back in 2009? I think. This was well before the OSR came to BG. Thank you for the buffs by the way when you saw I had to keep respawning from the graveyard

If you can, you should pop in from time to time. Then all the new players can actually put a pc face to the legend that is Jonas

Ooh Rok!
Good on the kids for picking up the right kinda hobbies too

That is quality parenting here, or DMing?

You are missed around here, but more so the memory of Jonas is a fond and inspirational one. You were a major asset to the server buddy, like many others who are/have been here, but for me you will always be one hell of an amazing DM too.
Thanks for the all the memories I now have from back in the days and the awesome armor Aerin is still wearing. Hope life keeps treating you and the family good and one day maybe, the next generation of Rokranons might even grace us here, or in some other other virtual medium for PnP.
Till then, be good mate
