Re: Underdark Adventure Group
Story so far:
Antimar has enrolled at the school of necromancy, a military school where he is required to serve the city. He currently holds the rank of Acolyte, which tasks him with patrolling the tunnels at the head of a death squad. The squad is to search for corpses to bring back to the school for reanimation or destruction, and to destroy uncontrolled undead.
Backstory so far:
Members of 10th ranked noble house from Menzoberranzan, Qu'ellar Myathviir.
First son came to Sshamath to attend the school of necromancy.
Two eldest daughters of the house accompanied him, exactly why that would be we still have to figure out.
He brings with him a Tanarukk slave.
Proposal:
The makeup of this death squad is the wizard, a warrior, a rogue, and one miscellaneous. Our group is a wizard, a warrior, a rogue, and a warlock. But, the squad is supposed to be members of the necromancy school. So, I think we'd need some adjustment if we wanted to go that route. We'd probably want to abandon the whole noble house from another city concept and just make it a death squad in the school of necromancy, made up of local recruits.
The duties of the squad grow, but his job is still to lead a four member team up until the associate necromancer rank. Associate necromancer has a minimum level requirement of 17, I don't think we'd need to worry about that for quite awhile. And even if we do hit level 17, it doesn't mean he must become an associate necromancer.
I think this is what we should do. A ready made four member group concept that fits our group makeup perfectly, just waiting for us.

Jiv'undus Mayathviir

Driven by a male drow on the back of a riding lizard, a larger than horse sized spider follows the lizard closely. On the back of the bulbous abdomen of the giant spider stands an ornate carriage box. With the drapery of the box closed tightly, the assembly slowly moves through the Sshamath roads. The wide stance of the enormous spider taking nearly the whole width of the roadways. The carriage makes it's way past the Augur Court and then Past the Tower of Necromancy without slowing. The lizardback driver seems to know his destination and the passenger seems to be unconcerned that he might not. Finally the driver halts the progression in front of the Stonestave. The drapery of the ornate carriage pulls apart revealing a young and beautiful drow priestess inside. The male drow driver quickly moves to the opening of the carriage and puts his hand up to catch the foot of the priestess precisely when the priestess steps down. Catching her next foot with his shoulder the driver makes living stairs to allow the elegant female to reach solid footing to the Sshamath floor.

Re: Underdark Adventure Group
Vlondia watched in fear and deep shame as her elder sister descended from her carriage. Not much more than a year ago, Vlondia arrived in Sshamath in much the same manner, escorting her brother Antimar. In this grand Underdark city, Antimar was to seek a position as an apprentice of necromancy, and Vlondia was there to ensure he didn't get out of line.
The Ilharess was well aware of Sshamath's reputation of breaking with the grand Drow matriarchal tradition. Their Qu'ellar, Myathviir of Menzoberranzan, was ranked tenth among their city's great houses.
"It is paramount that Antimar become a great necromancer. The house's standing depends upon his acceptance," the Ilharess said upon their departure. She fixed her steely gaze on Vlondia. "Do not let us down."
Vlondia was tasked by her Ilharess with ensuring Antimar worked hard, to make sure his newfound power and social standing did not go to his head.
She tried to strike a balance. Ensuring Antimar's acceptance into the inner circle of the School of Necromancy meant relaxing her standards when in the company of his newfound trainers and fellow students. It would not do to have him mocked among his peers for getting bossed around by a girl. That would ruin everything.
So Vlondia gritted her teeth as she genuflected and scraped, much to Antimar's amusement. Initially Antimar's antics provoked a sharp rebuke from Vlondia — never in public for fear of upsetting his training. He must be accepted!
But as time elapsed, she grudgingly played along as he, and then his friends, ordered her around. At times the shame was too much to bear. Once her eyes flashed red, and she lashed back. The lesson only needed to be taught once. Vlondia limped around Sshamath for a week.
After that she hid her glares behind her dark, loose hood and murmured retorts under her breath.
Such postures had become second nature... Until Jiv'undus arrived. Vlondia felt a jolt of fear pierce her. What would the Ilharres say? Vlondia had written glowing letters of Antimar's progress as a fledgling necromancer and his initiation, but she left out the details of how enthusiastically he adopted the Sshamath way.
Now Jiv'undus was here, surely to restore order and tell the family what Vlondia feared to report. Vlondia felt her face heat with embarrassment as she watched Jiv'undus' confident strides through the city.

Re: Underdark Adventure Group
Jiv'undus arrival was most unwelcome. Antimar had settled in well in Sshamath. Sure, Vlondia was here to keep an eye on him. But the social order was different here. Faern commanded more respect in Sshamath than yathrin. No longer did he have to kowtow to her whims. He even bossed Vlondia around, a little. Nothing like the way he had been treated by Jiv'undus back in Menzoberranzan, but then, his younger sister had never been as cruel as his older one. He was happier than he even knew possible living in Menzoberranzan.
And now Jiv'undus was in Sshamath, threatening to drag him back to Menzoberranzan. This is unacceptable. He is not going back there. Not now. Not ever.
Antimar wasn't slacking off in school. He was a gift necromancer, a real prodigy. He studied hard and was positive he would become one of the most powerful necromancers ever. But this was exactly why the family had such interest in him in the first place. And while his growing ability kept him from their reach for now, it also incited their lust to exploit him. The very thing keeping him away was also bringing him closer to them demanding his return.
His continued progress should keep his family happy for now, but he can't remain a student forever. Eventually, he needs something more to prevent a forced return to Menzoberranzan. He needed to lay down some roots. Perhaps an apprenticeship to a influential necromancer would help solidify his continued presence in his new home.
[OOC]
I'm going to be out of town from September 29th through October 17th. I think I'll be able to log in on the 2nd and 9th. The 16th is a definite no.

// What are the thoughts on playing today? I haven't seen consistent participation on this group, be it because of DDOS or people being busy I suppose?
Antimar and Vlondia helped defeat the attackers to our city. A temporal flux or something to do with time travel was involved. Vlondia wasn't sure what to make of it but Antimar seemed excited. Vlondia thought she spotted Shi'tar, but whoever it was faded into the shadows.

Right now we don't have any direction. And we've already done all the level appropriate content. Sitting around in a tavern can be a little entertaining, but if that's all we're going to do I'd rather do something in real life.
What I was looking from NWN2 was pretty much standard DnD adventuring. A small group with a DM. That was nearly what we initially got. There wasn't a DM, but we got quests from Max and it was close enough. I looked forward to it every week. It wasn't complicated in the quest hooks, but at least I felt like I was playing an adventurer instead of grinding a character.
Now, I dread playing as it ends up being a waste of my Sunday.
The large scale DM events were not a fun adventure. They have too many people to really be involved and with the large power difference those who aren't epic don't do much but cause lag. However, at least it was something to watch unfold.
Right now it seems to be either sit around and chat or make some flimsy excuse to go grinding and treasure hunting.
Unless we're going to actually go on a quest for the sake of adventure, instead of to gain experience and loot, I'd prefer to do something else with my Sundays.
I was also having more fun on the surface. I think it's because we were playing adventurers up there. Now I'm playing a student who bickers with his siblings the whole time. Not only is it not fun, it's stressful.
