I can give you a overview of my FVS's spells which were picked by some old veterans.

You got my steam already, poke me when you are around

Level 1: Bless, Divine Favor, Protection from Alignment, Entropic Shield, Sanctuary, Shield of Faith

Level 2: Aid, Bears Endurance, Cure Moderate Wounds, Owls Wisdom, Inflict Moderate Wounds, Bulls Strength

Level 3: Prayer, Magic Vestment, Blindsight, Cure Serious Wounds, Inflict Serious Wounds, Invisibility Purge

Level 4: Divine Power, Recitation, Freedom of Movement, Greater Magic Weapon, Cure Critical Wounds, Restoration

Level 5: Battle Tide, Righteous Might, Spell Resistance, Raise Dead, Flame Strike, True Seeing

Level 6: Stone Body, Energy Immunity, Superior Resistance, Heal, Control Undead, Harm

Level 7: Regenerate, Ressurection, Spell Mantle, Greater Restoration, Ethereal Jaunt, Blood to Water

Level 8: Aura Vs Alignment, Mass Cure Critical Wounds, Create Greater Undead, Sunbeam, Firestorm

What Terri wrote is a good overall selection.

If you plan to group play though having group buffs is nice, such as mass aid, mass bear, mass bull, circle of protect, mass deathwards etc.
