Parry (The free feat)
So I started a swashbuckler and at level 1 I gained a Feat called Parry. I assume this was because I had points in parry and I did not have duelist levels yet so it isn't part of that class. This feat is activatable and has nothing to do, or that I can tell, with the parry mode. I have been trying to find something on the feat or anyone that knows anything about it without much luck in either case. Anyone give me a link to where the info is or have said info and would like to share it?

Re: Parry (The free feat)
Parry is a defensive move. When you are attacked in melee, it will make parry checks atop of your AC.
Check: The DC is the modified attack roll of the incoming blow. A successful Parry check means that the attack does not damage the parrying character. A character may only parry a number of attacks per round equal to the number of attacks per round available to the character.
Special: If the parry is successful and the difference between the roll and the DC is ten points or greater, a counterattack occurs. A counterattack is a free attack made by the parrying character against the parried opponent. The first counterattack in a round is made with a full attack bonus and subsequent counterattacks are made at -5, -10, -15, and so on.
Theres some bugs or considerations though to have regarding parry

Re: Parry (The free feat)
Use of the Parry feat requires timing to coincide with an enemy window of attacks, so that it will not expire uselessly. When done right you can parry attacks that are part of the later flurries, which the game's automatic parry mode would not cover.
This is a quoted explanation from Rasael, but the explanation is not in the wiki that I could find...

That's what I figured... but no idea anything else about it. I mean I have 12 ab and 19 parry... but the dc is only 23

So it is meant as a workaround for one of the parry bugs.chad878262 wrote:Use of the Parry feat requires timing to coincide with an enemy window of attacks, so that it will not expire uselessly. Is this feat only existing for swashbuckler or the other classes with parry in the mechanics?

You drag it on the hotbar and use it from there. I am testing it now

Re: Parry (The free feat)
It doesnt work as intetnted. It even parries your own attacks if your character fails the save.
It seems to make those near you make a reflex save with a DC based on your parry skill. If they opponents fail the save then you can parry their attacks - they attack you with 0AB. This happens for a number of attacks equal to the characters number of attacks. For example when the character has 5 attacks and there are 6 mobs around him, if he succesfully uses the parry ( if all six mobs fail their reflex save ) then you get to parry 5 out of the 6 incoming attacks.
The bug here is that even your character can fail the save. Another issue can be that there is no cooldown.

If it worked it would be hugely overpowered.

It works. The only thing that doesnt work is that your charcter has to roll a save. I think it needs a cooldown as well.Thorsson wrote:If it worked it would be hugely overpowered.
Note that the attacks parried are equal to the number of attacks you have.

Re: Parry (The free feat)
It definitely needs a cooldown, quite a long one as well. It's like Epic Dodge on Speed. How the hell could QC let this through?

Re: Parry (The free feat)
Wouldn't it be easier to replace the entire mechanic with a custom feat, then use the one currently stuck to basegame?

Re: Parry (The free feat)
Well as the one that tested and commented for a LOT of the mechanics for the new feat I can only say I didn't test this one as there was about a billion other things to test. I don't know that it's fair to say QC let it get through so much as to say it was one of the items that was not tested before the release. As was stated after the release there was a huge backlog so things were going to slip through. I suppose the fact that it's just now being found probably relates to how few swashbuckling players there are...Thorsson wrote:It definitely needs a cooldown, quite a long one as well. I assume that by using the "How the Hell" you are answering your own question.Thorsson wrote:It definitely needs a cooldown, quite a long one as well. It's like Epic Dodge on Speed. How the hell could QC let this through?
