Piercing cold and Spell penetration

Do you need spell penetration at all if you got piercing cold for cold spells? Seems like it makes no difference as you ignore all cold spell resists with Piercing cold, but thought I ask :)

Generally a high level caster doesn't need spell penetration because one cast of assay resistance or mords will address any SR issues. That said piercing cold goes through cold resistance, it does not impact spell resistance.

Thanks Chad.

Thats super, means I can avoid a feat or 2, Sorcs being starved for feats as it is makes great change to my potential idiotic build :)

So long as you make sure your sorc takes assay and/or mords...YMMV, but mords should always be on the list imo. Also, if you take an epic spell only do so when taking a level in sorc, otherwise your DC we'll be based on INT.

Btw, is it the same with epic spells and clerics too?

Good question, but I think epic spells are fine for divine due to all use WIS for DC... SS and FS only use CHA for max spell level they can cast and bonus spells/day.

Not sure about classes that can be taken by arcane or divine though. I can test tomorrow if no-one has the answer at hand.
