Creatures Damage Reduction and Monks

Unread post by darwin.evenwood »

Hello!
I am playing a human monk and i wonder how he will be able to damage monsters with damage reduction, such as vampires, undeads, liches, demons in Nashkel mines or every other boss that have DR. Will he need cold iron or alchemical silver gauntlets? Do they exist?

That said i understood that i don't really know which material in general will bypass those DR, if alchemical silver or cold iron. I mean, with another toon i used a cold iron hammer that worked well with the erynn in the mines but didn't bypass the demon's DR.
Is possible to have a list of which materials or enchanted weapon bypass the most famous bosses' DR?
If the question is too much cheating, i ask you another thing, is there a warhammer made by alchemical silver? In that case i will find it out empirically :)
Thanks!

Monks that take a certain number of levels in the monk class gain abilities that allow their fists to bypass certain types of DR. By monk level 16 their fists are treated as lawful, magic, adamantium weapons and bypass the appropriate types of damage reduction. Also, monk damage is sufficient that with their increased damage dice, blazing aura and fiery fist they are quite capable of putting out plenty of damage even against crit/sneak immunes and enemies with various DR's.

To answer a few of your specific questions, there are no gauntlets made of unusual DR bypassing materials of which I am aware. The main two boss DR's would likely be alchemical silver for devils and cold iron for demons. (I hope I don't have those reversed.) Monk single hit damage is still typically sufficient to deal with those DR's.
