Persistent storage

Unread post by sippahodge »

Can someone fill me in how it works and where I can access it?

I've not been been able to find this information on the forum.

Player Storage!
Persistent storage is now enabled at the following locations:
  • Baldur's Gate (inside the SCCE, see map note, and the Merchant's League)
  • Sshamath (at a tent in the central bazaar, see map note)
  • Soubar (talk to Mags at the Winding Way Inn)
  • Friendly Arm Inn (talk to, of course, good old Bentley)
The system is hooked into an SQL back-end, so should prove quite reliable even in the event of module crashing. It has undergone testing by a handful of people, but like with any new system, please take precaution as bugs might inevitably creep up. Please PM me or the dev team if you see any problems or potential exploits with this new system.

The appearance changer also seems fairly well perfected, now, and all options should be working. Finishing these two systems were my two big projects I wanted to complete this year, and we're just about there. :)

That big thing got in almost unnoticed for me until now.

Are there limits (number of items, time)?, are there IC fees to use?
Most my PCs would hesitate if offered to store items free of charge by people that aren't friends to them.

Would it persist through RCR?

Was Kahanak issue with lost items solved?

IT was fixed. It's a problem only those who ask a change of name will get. :P

1. 200 items per character.
2. There are no mechanical fees, and I won't be incorporating any. I don't see the use of nickel and diming players for 50 gold here and 100 gold there to put things in the vault.

However, ICly speaking, of course it's not free. :P So I would encourage something along the lines of simply assuming you have an "account" with whatever merchant, organization, or vendor you decide to use. The SCCE building in the East Gate district is literally a bank that has offered (non-mechanical) secured storage for years, and certainly operated at profit. :)

...and c'mon, Bentley doing something for free? If anything, his prices are probably the highest of all.

No matter where you store your items, you will be able to access them at every player storage location. This was done as a matter of convenience, giving PCs the option to choose the level of "ICness" they want to exercise. Some players might want to restrict themselves to only retrieving items where they actually deposited them, but others who don't have the option to dump their latest loot haul off at any of the places they want. :)

3. It will indeed persist through RCR. The storage is tied to your ACCOUNT and CHARACTER NAME. This means that if I use my account Endelyon to access the vault of the character "Endelyon," then I RCR her, my name has to be "Endelyon" once more to access the vault again after the RCR. If your CHARACTER NAME changes, then the vault will appear empty. Which leads into my next answer..

4. Yes. There was no issue, actually, other than Kahanak had received the title "Khazark" in front of his name. "JCVD1" / "Khazark Kahanak Habdilof" cannot access the storage for "JCVD1" / "Kahanak Habdilof." :D In cases like this when a DM name change happens, the easiest solution is to simply use the "Disguise Toggle" to briefly change your name back to the old one, withdraw all your items, turn off the disguise, and store them again with your new name. This will not be considered an exploit if only used in this way (for retrieving your old storage after a name change), as it will save the time and energy of both the player in trying to find another DM to revert it, and the DMs in having to do said name changes! :D

I hope that answers all your questions.

If anyone has any others, now is a good time to ask.

One more thing I should note! This was added at more locations:

Candlekeep - Quartermaster NPC
Doron Amar - Blacksmith NPC
Seven Suns - Merchant NPC
Merchant League - Elad
Beregost - Samuel Feldepost, inside the Rising Phoenix

...I feel like I'm missing one or two, lol. I'll get back if I find that I put it somewhere else too.

EDIT: EDE! Pretty sure that's the last one. That merchant NPC just by the entrance.

I think there is persistent storage in the Glora's Wings in Sshamath with the basic vendors located there.
