Should DM Events be Over Teen-rated/PG-13?

Sort of been idly wondering this for a long time.
For clarity, the server rules are spoilered here:
– Content = Teen
– The Server, Forum and all interactions are to be rated Teen. Sexual encounters, graphic or extended nudity, gratuitous violence and torture, ERP (Erotic Role Play), and especially rape are strictly prohibited. Pregnancies are forbidden unless directly supervised by a DM, resulting from DM-authorized Role-play. Miscarriages are strictly prohibited. Pregnancies are a form of "retiring" a PC for the duration, and resulting children are NOT to be Role-played. Any caught violating this rule are subject to being permanently banned. All Player Characters (PCs) must be created and Role-played with the minimum age of 18, for Human, and the equivalent for all other races.
Now there's been periodic discussion brought up about more "adult" themes being permissible. I generally think that the playerbase as a whole wouldn't be responsible with that sort of allowance... Especially regarding pregnancy, rape, etc...
It does sort of restrict proper supervision by our loving parental figures, the DMs, from certain realism from dramatic storytelling and the overall Forgotten Realms setting experience.
I guess what I'm asking is:
Is it alright for DMs to run events that are somewhat more adult than the status quo server rules allow?
With one particular caveat though. I've always been told that players are allowed to opt out of events they're unable to time-wise attend or are simply uncomfortable with. That'd be an obvious at-will power of the player.

I am all for mature content as long as it is not ERP.

Strongly opposing; too much left up for interpretation and what one DM or even a participating player will put on the table may be enough for another player to leave over even if they were aware of the opt out. It casts this server in a very negative connotation. There are plenty of other chat mediums, BGTSCC should never be one of them. Players will be convinced to believing that what was permitted during a DM event can be carried on outside of it.

More adult themes sounds like slavery. What themes are we not allowed under the current rules? Other than slavery? I mean this is an action server so really the only thing to add is a bit of slavery or what not other than adult kissy kissy shite.

The obvious answer is yes it should remain PG 13. This age guards even adults from morally objectionable content.
Now should it be not movie scale, yes. As a single DM event goes over the number of allowed violent situations to qualify for pg 13. There all kinds of rules and fun.
You all should be using tv scale. Not film.
Should instead tv 16 be applied. Yes. This tv shows like Empire and Chicago Fire.
I believe MA such as sons of anarchy and Americans maybe to much for some.
Tv ma nr. Such as game of thrones. Should never be allowed. (That is allowing erp practically ))

We don't use the TV or Film rating system, we use the one for video games...cause video game.

I've heard DMs pulling punches on violence or certain racist stuff (orcs vs elves vs dwarves vs... etc) because people are uncomfortable with it or that it doesn't fit a PG-13/Teen setting wholly as such.

I do not understand why this would be stopped. It is part of the realm. Elves hate Orcs. Barbarian tribes hate orcs. Orcs are hated..........

Depends if the community wants to have
another discussion about changing the content rating. I wouldn't object to a move to M15+ to accommodate such things from a DM standpoint, but then that is going to leave some players with their PG13+ kids technically out of the game.

Personally I'm for a more mature setting. Torture and stuff should be in. And for kids there's always hello kitty online.

In general, I think we aught to be able to have more gruesome details and disturbing themes as this is not Super Mario. I don't think we should be using a rating system because this is a cross between literature and a game; it simply doesn't fit nicely into any box.
We just need clear guidelines that state sexual content is at the most insinuated, but not acted out. Pregos are no goes. I don't care too much about profanity, but I understand that some people think modern words should not be used in the setting.

I think it could help set a more serious atmosphere, but as with all things the DM should use it in moderation. Some graphic violence, descriptions, torture etc., can help, but they don't need to overly linger on such things. Erotics also seem to bring nothing to the table, IMO, and just shouldn't be used.

Generally things like that tend to work better when they AREN'T overused anyway. makes them more memorable.

I would rather not have descriptive torture RP thrown in my face. It's not interesting. I don't need to hear your torture fantasies. Fade to black.
