Aldebaran - The Wide - Various Wares

A man in sea-blue cloth and coral-colored cape, can be found within the Wide of Baldur's Gate Palace District, engaging in philosophical debates with the merchants there.

He inquires on their wares and their prices, then begins to debate on the prices of wares he states he possesses. The merchants there do not seem willing to either offer a valid coin amount in trade, or simple a trade.

But the man who appears as a priest or wiseman of a holy denomination, does not give in to defeat, here. Instead, he passes on the information of his wares to merchants, so that they may further pass on that information to any persons, with interest. He states his name is Aldebaran, and he will return one day each tenday, for the foreseeable future, in the Wide, to engage those with interest in his wares.

Alas, at this moment, Aldebaran is offering no wares that can be learned of, by the merchants of the Wide.

Ash approaches Aldebaran.

"Well met sir.
I have an interest in that mage belt of yours along with the mage staff you have for sale.
I have a pair of boots at my disposal that might be of interest to you in a trade.
Furthermore I could offer you thirty bags of gold for that spellchain of yours."

He shows him a pair of worn but highly magical boots.

"Well met, well met...you have just made a catch of my attention...you have, you have. Every day at nearly this time I come back to this fantastic market to see if my wares have caught interest. I am pleased!"

The armored man, this Aldebaran it must be, listens to Ash speak. At first, his face is light and eager, then, it goes pensive. He quickly thinks over the magical boots.

"Sir, it is as you say, a set of highly magical boots, a rare find for most. But it would seem that, I, have already acquired such wondrous item, many years ago...." Aldebaran lowers a hand downward, and points to his own set of steel greaves. "Now, if you were to be offering something the same regarding the enchanted ability to dodge, plus something more...I tell you, that exquisite mage belt could be yours. I really do want to see you have it, if you can only but help me as well."

"As for the spellchain of epic proportions, I would prefer to sell it for forty thousand gold coins...actually, the truth is I would prefer to sell it for much more than that! But I can only expect so much...I have only the faintest ideas—rumors really have informed me—of the market for such things in this fine city."

"A pity" Ash says without much shown emotion.
"I will have to think of something else then." He ponders a bit while pacing back and forth slowly.
"How about an amulet of equal quality?
And amulet of epic protection?"

"Regarding your spellchain.
The enchantment on it is rightfully brilliant but sadly it's on a very mediocre armor type."

He ponders.
"Lets meet halfways on thirtyfive bags of gold."

"Sir," he replies to Ash, "you are exceptional possessor of exceptional wares. I am tempted to say no to you simply to see what else you can bring to the trade!" Aldebaran gives a small chuckle, good-natured in tone.

"But again, this pendant you see before you, this that bears the emblem of the Eternal Transformation, is imbued as well, with the highest of natural defense protections. I would never part with it...except, where it would be most beneficial to a cause!"

Aldebaran places his hands, now clasped, behind him. "I do not stand here with an unwillingness to trade with you sir, but I must assure that it is a worthwhile trade, for me."

"As for the Spellchain, it is what it is, and by itself, something to admire. But to admire it within a hall of great armors is one thing...to place upon body and travel the lands with it giving defense and grace, is another. You seem to know what you speak of, and that it inspires less than what I expected. I see no other person or persons with interest in it, so by the time today the sun disappears from the sky, I can relieve myself of it for what you offer."

Ash frowns a bit.
"You seem extremely well equiped sir and you have put me in a troublesome position as I'm tempted by your mage belt and yet fond of items I might have to offer you to complete the trade."
He smirks and looks down into the ground while pacing back and forth in deep thought.
"I have a few items here. If one holds and interest we might be able to find meens to complete a trade."
He shows Aldebaran some items.

Going to Baldur's from the south, Pietro arrives and greets Aldebaran to have a look at the wares. He points the arcane belt : "What are you looking for to trade this belt?" Learning Aldebaran's request, Pietro nods, rubbing his chin. He shows him a morningstar, an amulet and a pair of boots. "Look at these rare finds from my months of travel. Shall we trade these three for the belt?"

Aldebaran graciously accepts the list from Ash, carefully reading the perceived lore of each of the wares. As he reads, it is seen on Aldebaran's face both a curious and impressed reaction. After a minute or two of pensive, quiet reflection, Aldebaran addresses Ash in reply.

"It is as a thought—that every time I must say no to you, for a ware that is not what I may seek, you return with a greater, impressive option!" Aldebaran chuckles again, in good-natured jest.

"As I read this list, I can tell you this: I possess such faith that through prayer, I am granted a shield of deflection such that few encounters set me back in my task. As well, by divine guidance I may ask and receive a field of protection to resist all but the greatest of magical attacks, via a divine resistance to the violent propagated by some practicing the Art."

Aldebaran continues to go down the list, one by one.

"I am not a tempered mind, such that was born from monastery. I do not fight with my hands, and such a ware, though as I interpret must be of great value, it serves my cause little."

"Such beauty and power of grave that could be granted me by these other wares is improved upon by the divine grace granted me in prayer, again. And I do not hold the power in the blood that a sorcerer has manipulated by will. It is an envious power...but I retain a faith in wisdom."

"That leaves the greatsword you have presented...but my task is not to become a weapon master, by any means. It is the elements and a faith that is the power I wield, and empowering that, is what I seek, in order to fulfill my task. I have never seen such an impressive blade, but I am not the man to use it."

"What are we to do, good sir? I would hold this exquisite mage belt for you, and only you, if you were to find an equally powerful object that suited my divine background and means. Or, if a weapon of blunt nature, suited to empower my prayers or assist me as warden to the celestial gate, was to trade...there would be no question, remaining."

Aldebaran hands the list back to Ash.

"If you tell me you shall look and hopefully return to me with something more suiting my particular needs, then I can promise you to hold this belt in reserve for up to a tenday...even though others have now shown an interest."

Aldebaran finishes speaking with Ash and turns to Pietro. He listens gracefully to the man, and takes a consideration to his offer. Aldebaran replies:

"Good sir, none of these wares you offer in total for the exquisite mage belt, can replace the outfit and weapons that I already possess. It is truly my desire to trade for a single, comparable ware that empowers my prayers, in my task ahead."

Aldebaran smiles kindly at Pietro.

"If you wish to seek out something for me, and no other can provide it first, I will retain this belt until it is found...but always consider your position."

The rumours of a belt that absorbs the traders reached one sorceress' ears. Upon learning of it, she set to the Wide to meet the merchant. Not empty-handed, however, she laid before the man's eyes a belt from her collection.

"I seek the mastery of the arcane while you seek the mastery of the divine. Have a look at this girdle. Does it satisfy your need? In return I would ask also a belt, the one that interests so many."

"Well met, sir...," replies Aldebaran, taking with graciousness the girdle thrust into his view. It seems that the enhancement it bears, is immediately clear to the mystic.

"I wish you great achievements in your Art, sir...that is truly my feeling. What you possess is truly a holy object, retaining many prayers for a man, or woman, such as myself. Though I do not possess a skill in making monetary value of things, I can with wisdom say that this girdle does not equal the powers granted by this exquisite mage belt. It would be unwise for me to make such a direct trade...and it would weaken me in my tasks ahead."

Aldebaran hands back the girdle to the person.

"It maybe that if you were willing to sell such a holy object, I would do what I can to provide the coin."

With a slight smile and a few resigning nods Ash looks at Aldebaran.
"You have me defeated me it seems." He chuckles a bit.
"I can't come up with an item in my possession that could wrip this fine mage belt out of your tight grip." He looks at Aldebaran for a few seconds and the continue.
"I will not say that I won't look for an item that could pursuade you into a trade however I would not want you to keep the belt on my behalf as my hopes are slim at best.
And to be entirely truthful I wouldn't know what items to look for in order to lure you.
So for now I wish you good day and good fortune on your continued sale and settle for the Spellchain we agreed upon ealier."

With a disappointed look he hands Aldebaran a bag of gold containing goldworth of 35.000.

Aldebaran responds to Ash.

"Good sir! I have no wish to defeat you! We must work together, it would seem, to come to adequate resolve—all Men have needs, we must humbly state them and give time and space for fulfillment!"

Aldebaran crosses one arm across his chest and with the other, raises a hand to stroke his mustache.

"It is quite simple, really: a trade is to be made with equally enchanted wares. The Sword Coast is known to provide many riches and wares to the adventurous and bold. As I yearn to complete my task ahead, I have no desire to be hasty in my dealings, here."

Aldebaran then moves to accept the coin in trade for the Spellchain.

"You have chosen fantastically, good sir" Aldebaran says to Ash as he collects the armor from storage, and presents it to the buyer.

"The Elves are fine smiths, when it pleases them. May this armor protect you against all evils."

Aldebaran shakes hands with the one called Ash, and continues his usual program, of returning to the Wide daily, at the same hour, in order to see if any further interests find his wares for sale or trade.

A woman clad in a fine purple dress finds Aldebaran's stall on one of her strolls. What stands out about her is the facial tattoos, swirling text in Celestial, also found on the upper sides of her hands. She greets Aldebaran with a warm small and introduces herself as Adelaide van de Saer.

"I doubt I have what you seek, Aldebaran, but maybe we can still agree on something..?"

She then explains that she is interested in the scimitar he has on display.

"I know you said you were not looking for gold but if you have changed your mind, I can offer 325 000 for it. I happen to have a ring you might want, or a few other items."

Adelaide explains what these other times are and then waits to hear his reaction.
