Death xp cost when not dead
The reset around 2:30pm or so PST (GMT-8) on 09/24/16 has caused a loss of 1600 xp due to the game reading me as dead when I logged back on around 3:30.
I had died earlier that day, perhaps between 1 and 1:30 but was raised by character Marneiros Duskwalker (player name Marathados) in the Vampire mansion in the cloakwood. We then spent another hour killing random things and went to sit at Greenest for the reset very much alive. I saved my character (Derik Ranloss) several times in the meantime.
When I logged back on the NPCs of the nexus sent me to the fugue and I had to pay 1600 xp to get back onto the server even though I was not dead
Is it possible to be refunded the 1600 xp to Derik Ranloss?

Get used to it
My PC lost nearly 2000 xp twice to crashes yesterday, and day before, its just the way it is. Relog to save more often.

Automatic reclamation of lost XP is my next endeavor, a solution due by the end of this coming week.

Actually, often what happen in these case is that someone died, you carry the corpse, you get killed while carrying the corpse but when this happen, the game doesn't send you to the fugue.
You're a walking ghost. And when you talk to Mystra, she sends you to the fugue.
The real thing would be to change the death system, to solve this issue.
And... this exemple up there, it was in 100% of the cases of 'Sent to fugue but I didn't die' DM PMs I recieved back in the days. I've actually never witnessed a real 'bug' that sends you to fugue after a reset. Unless there's a server rollback of course.

It's been a long time since them days. ;P "Being a ghost in the Fugue" hasn't been a thing since like the dinosaur ages of 2013.Passiflora wrote:And... this exemple up there, it was in 100% of the cases of 'Sent to fugue but I didn't die' DM PMs I recieved back in the days. This is a legitimate problem. It happens because of the crashing. If you are revived and the server crashes before you save, the variable on your KEMO scry tool that says you've been raised gets erased because your character doesn't save before the reset.
In the past we've not granted these returns, but the DMs have been generous in a few cases (I noticed a forum post myself just a month or two back where DMs returned XP to a character who got corpse-bugged). Try sendng a private message to the DM team with this information and ask for a refund.
Whether or not they grant it is of course up to them, and will remain a judgment call. They're pretty busy at the moment with a new group of ADMs coming in soon, and they might just simply not have the time to spend fulfilling these requests at the expense of DM preparation and training.
But again, it's worth a shot!

With this instance however, my corpse was never carried and I saved several times before the crash/reset, so I'm not sure what happened.

It's not your corpse that gets carried, it's when you carry the corpse of a friend.
The thing that happens is as follow.
-You carry a corpse
-Monsters attack you while you run away
-They kill you but you regain full HP somehow and may not even notice that you died
-You're not sent to fugue.
-When there's a reset, Mystra sends you to fugue.
Endelyon, has this been fixed since 2011?

As far as I know it still persists. Though Rasael did make tweaks to the death system, so maybe it's been solved?Passiflora wrote:It's not your corpse that gets carried, it's when you carry the corpse of a friend.

Either way, the corpse bug is pretty common knowledge, but the Myrkul death bug is now happening to people who never got picked up as a corpse at all, but have simply been Raised and had it fail to save the removal of their "Is Dead" variable on their kemoscry tool (this widget holds this information inside it).
It's an issue that has something to do with it saving your character when you are fugued, but not when you are raised. Then, the server crashes, and you roll back to a "fugue saved state." In other words, when you log back in, the game knows you died, but does not know you were raised, and therefore forces you to pay this XP penalty before entering the world.
I hope that explains it. I just didn't want the original poster to feel like you were calling his problem illegitimate in nature when it is in fact a very prolific and common thing that has been plaguing us since the module crashing earlier in the year. This is very much a bug now.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the info on that. I don't remember saving on Fugue plane and did save after a raise, but I never rested, so that might be it.
Did also do fighting while carrying another corpse.
Good to know that it's on a radar though. Thanks a lot.

It adds another one the 100% I wrote up there.artemitavik wrote:

What it does as well, is that when someone who dies carrying a corpse(but survives because of the bug) dies again, they don't leave a corpse behind to raise, because the game thinks they're already dead.
In 2011 there was no other way to fix it than calling a DM, asking them to kill you, then raise you. Cause you couldn't do it between players.

Re: Death xp cost when not dead
I get transported to the Fugue a lot lately. I die, I pay the xp. And then on my next relog I will be transported to the fugue.
I hate it. Although I'm lvl 30 I'm paying much too much for rolling an one on a destruction spell.
