Whatever the new update is, it's not working for me -- it downloads, but gives the message "verification failed." As such, I can't play, and my world is crumbling around my head.

It appears to be downloading as a file with extension .lzma rather than .hak:

bg_soz_tools.hak.lzma

Since i am having the same problem, can we manually turn it into a .hak file renaming it? Should it work fine then?

I've tried, and failed. It keeps overwriting the edited file when I log on.

I'll note that I'm using a Mac, which isn't always as happy to edit file extensions as a PC, of course.

Yes, i tried it too now and failed miserably.

And a last, sad update: I manually decompressed the .lzma file (it's a compression format) which produced a proper file with the .hak extension.

And the updater overwrote it.

*shakes fist at the heavens*

I have to restart my computer to get the file to download.

once I restart my whole computer from a powerdown, i log in and it seams to find the right place to put the file.

Endelyon believes she's figured it out. There was a typo in some .xml code. After the next reset, everything should download correctly.

Please let us know if it does not.

Is there a workaround? I've put this file into my hak folder but it's still trying to download / override it when I login?

It's because an update is sitting in the FTP waiting to be deployed. You'll be able to connect after the server resets in about 30 minutes.
