Apparently using a summon monster spell creates an invisible doppleganger which will run around during the combat, attempts to fight and ALSO detects your pickpocet attempts. Just because.
Would be nice to have it fixed.

I could not reproduce this with Summon Creature IIV. Could you be more specific about which spell you used and perhaps under what circumstances?

Summoned astral-wolf as a level6 bard via summon monster I spell in Chontair ruins. The monster was killed by a bugbear. Performed a pickpocket attempt, whicch was detected by invisible entityt running around, which screamed "arrest the pickpocket". In combat log, the message was "said" by my own character, meaning it is the same mechanic as with pommel strike. Based on position of the message, invisible doppleganger was running around and trying to fight.Rasael wrote:I could not reproduce this with Summon Creature IIV. The "doppleganger" can't be targeted, seen or interaccted with by any means.
I think it might have something to do with the issue I reported earlier where using any summon monster spells creates permanent source of noise on the map which persists till the server reset.
I also experienced somewhat similar issue in durlag's tower where summoning a creature into an insta-kill trap created an invisible immortal creature (that couldn't be targeted or interacted with), which other monsters on the map kept trying to attack.
----
I think a possible way to reproduce the problem could be...:
1. Make a character with high detection skill.
2. Summon a creature via summon monster spell.
3. Get it killed.
4. Try to pickpocket someone nearby.

Problem still persists.
To reproduce:
Enter combat, summon a creature with "summon monster" spell, try to pickpocket someone.
Invisible doppleganger will scream "Thief!".

Anybody elses invisible doppleganger will follow me around. I can always pick it up via tracking with scent. I can make it roll saves with certain AoE effects that target party members, but it's invulnerable to damage.
If one is following me around and I transition, I am guaranteed to crash

Wirg to Pug: "Iz lat dun?"
Pugratix to a snarky militia man: "Mmmm. Not yet. I will live for hundreds of years and be heralded as one of the greatest forces of destruction on the face of the world. The only thing you can destroy is the outhouse."

I'm fairly sure this thing is also the source of that annoying noise that stays forever on the map when someone uses "summon monster" spell.Flasmix wrote:Anybody elses invisible doppleganger will follow me around. I think it might be draining resources and contributing to lags and crashes as well.
Also at least some monsters will try to fight it. (For example, invisible stalkers in durlag's tower will be attacking it)

I wonder if this has something to do with the stand ins? Anyways, I see mobs fighting invisible opponents regularly now.

Hard to tell without seeing summoning script source.Eclypticon wrote:I wonder if this has something to do with the stand ins? Anyways, I see mobs fighting invisible opponents regularly now.
