SLAYER!

Unread post by Wyatt »

Image

I am trying to put together a potential build for a slayer and while I have a fair grasp on what I wish to do for a build I am looking for information regarding any sort of mechanical restrictions one must abide by in order to be a slayer. I realize that it is not a PRC per se but I seem to recall there being some general guidelines to follow. A short list perhaps to address...

Armor Restrictions...
Weapon Restrictions...
Class Restrictions...

Any lore links would be much appreciated as well. I believe I have a fair grasp on what slayers are and more importantly WHY they are but I always welcome extended background to help bolster my already weak RP ability.

This is Karond's baby so you might want to talk to him. This is copied from his post on the Slayers. I believe most have died off ICly, but he will know the RP state of them the best of course, and details. There is more but the bellow will give you the info needed to get started.
Short Description

The slayers are dwarves who have committed a terrible crime, failed to uphold an oath, betrayed, failed to protect someone or otherwise lost their honor to the point that they actively seek death as a penance. Only a glorious death will do against a terrifying foe, such as a troll, giant, demon or dragon. Slayers take an oath of dying a glorious death in battle, symbolized by shaving their head save for a strip, dye their hair and beard orange, and put the strip of hair up with pig grease Mohawk style. They undergo ritualized tattooing with blue colors, often depicting the monsters they wish to face, and sometimes even a short motto or text. Slayers fight unarmored armed with heavy axes, hammerers or maces and are psychopathically dangerous as they seek to die.
Armor Restrictions: Wears no armor RPly. (see bellow) Weapon and Class Restrictions. (see bellow)
Rules that all must abide too in creating a Slayer

Slayers are all:

* Non-Evil

* Male Shield Dwarves

* Not spellcasters. Spellcasting classes allowed, as long as you cannot cast spells (too low a level, or too low of an ability score)

* Cannot use the "Hide in Plain Sight"-Feat

*Can only use axes, maces, flails and warhammers as weapons

* Can only use the Slayer Armor (fullplate or chainshirt) given to him (although this can be upgraded to any armor you've acquired in the game, ask me how in a PM)

* Beard and Hair has to be orange, and you've to have one of the two mohawk hairstyles depicted below: (Same as your picture)

No exceptions to any of these rules. (Note: If a player does not want to come up with a reason they became slayer before the game, it is recommended that you start a character, hide his face under a helmet until you face an In-game event that causes you to take the oath. At that time, you can become a member)
The Oath we take:

"I am a dwarf, my honor is my life and without it I am nothing. I shall become a Slayer, I shall seek redemption in the eyes of my ancestors. I shall become as death to my enemies until I face he that takes my life and my shame."

Another thing to consider is the upcoming buff to barbarians. It might make the battlerager class worth it.
Roland; svirfneblin fist of the forest and eco terrorist.
Heinrich Von Rittermark; Everwatch Knights of Helm
Frederick Von Rittermark; Paladin of Azuth/Mystra
Erik Von Rittermark; Unknown

Character is made. Low level dwarf barbarian new to the coast. Something along the lines of Jarrol Ironhead is his name if any dwarves are about.

No slaying as of yet. It'll be a possibility through rp. Just a barb/rager for now. :)

Does the strength bonus from rage stack with the strength bonus from gear?

I thought I noticed it stacking. I just wanted to confirm with someone that would know more of the mechanics to see if it was supposed to stack or if I needed to report it as a bug. Thanks for the response Captain Ostirel. *wink*

Yes and Barbarian Rage stacks but Frenzy doesn't. Not sure about Bear Warrior.
Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it
