Flame Weapon spell on new (& old) animal companions?

Can someone confirm how Flame Weapon works on the new (and old) animal companions? For example in the vanilla game only Badgers, Bears, Deinonychus, Dragons, and Panthers can be buffed using Flame Weapon (according to the wiki), is this unchanged or can spiders, dogs, snow leopards etc. be buffed with this spell as well? Are any of the animal companions worthwhile without Flame Weapon?

It works on everything. But you dont get bonus damage with fire elementals... it just doesn't work cause that damage type won't stack.
