Duelward spell

Can someone explain how this actually works, to what affect it actually has?

Does Counterspelling need to be selected first? At all even? Then, cast Duelward? Or does Duelward put up an auto-Counterspell energy shield that will auto fire the first time a spell is cast against the Duelwarded Caster? If so, is this effective to cast as a buff before launching into combat against a enemy caster?

Cheers.

when I had it prior to my toons rcr I found that it would counterspell as long as I had the caster targeted and did no actions. with counter spelling all broken now however I am unable to determine if it is still a working spell. keep in mind you have to have a dispell prepared or the spell that is being casted memorized.

When you mean targeted and no actions, do you mean with Counterspelling toggled or not?

To quote from the description:
With Duelward...counterspelling is an immediate action for you, allowing you to counterspell even when it is not your turn without having previously readied an action.
Or, would it be that one could buff, lastly cast Duelward, run into a Boss who could cast Mords, select but stand still (no action), wait for the Boss to cast Mords on you, Duelward pops, then attack?

But then, wouldn't that be the same as just toggling on Counterspell?!?
