Question about Flanking

I was curious if this server has made any custom changes to what constitutes being flanked.
Tonight I was attacking one target. There was another spawn next to him but still in front of me that was making Sneak Attacks. To give an idea of positioning, if my toon was the 5 key on the number pad, my target was 8, and the second spawn was 7.
My understanding was that to be flanked, you had to ACTUALLY be flanked (IE #4 or 6 on the number pad).

Monsters cheat.
They seriously don't follow the same rules you have to. Monster sneak attackers can sneak you easier then you them. They just need another monster in base anywhere with you.

It doesnt just apply to monsters. The game server dictates the sneak attack requisite, not the module.

Huh?
Monster sneak attack triggers easier and in different ways then player sneak attack.

We don't have the granular sneak attack control in the module itself, it's up to the nwserver/nwn2 game's dictating whether or not the event occurs.
What happens, often, is the server is not accurately representing object position, which facilitates it. This, like the low level combat dice rolls, are not something module enumerable.

think of it sort of like rubber banding, you see yourself in one spot but the server thinks you are somewhere else and then it finally catches up and moves you to where it knows you were at and you shoot across the screen
sorta like that but when mobs go to move to attack you, you will see them in one spot but the server may register them as have gone farther, enough where they are flanking you
only real difference being mobs may not snap back, and the only real way to "fix" it is to force the server to re figure the position by moving back enough they have to move to you again
but ultimately yes, the AI cheats... if you think flanking is bad you should see the AI with hips...
