Nostalgia
Please do bear with me if my formatting makes your eyes bleed - I haven't made use of this forum's formatting, or any forum's formatting, at that, in so, so many years. In fact, BGTSCC was the last game forum I've frequented outside of idly shifting through reddit, but anyhow:
I'm not sure how many of you actually remember me, but I have been thinking of this community for the past few weeks, if not longer. I've always made an effort to check my PM inbox at least once a year - sometimes twice, and I've received such darling messages from all of you. People I didn't even know knew me, were sending me messages telling me they were married, that they missed me, and that their lives were going in all sorts of directions.
This game, when I played it for so, so long, gave me an amount of pleasure I can't say I've realised after leaving it. This is nostalgia speaking - I've gone through GW2, FFXIV, and had amazing, wonderful times. But how can you replace such a magical experience, especially when it was your first, and you were so, so young?
There was a bittersweet familiarity, when I first opened my inbox this morning. I went back to the first message I ever received, and it read: "Happy New Year ♥". This was 6 years ago; I started playing in 2010, and the turn of 2011 was when the lovely Simini/Arasinya decided to send me this. Today, I wished her a happy new year, and I sincerely hope she reads it. Then I remembered all my darling friends that welcomed me back here every time I hadn't gotten my way and decided to make a post about how I was leaving (I never really did many of these!). I can't name names - actually, I can, but there are so many that if I even forget one, and they see this, they're going to think I've forgotten them. They all have my love.
There is someone I wanted to mention, in fact. Maecius. Why Maecius? Maecius is a soul who has worked so, so hard on this server since time began. In my brief period as DM -- remember, I was one of the very, very few unanonymous DMs -- Maecius held my hand every step of the way, and it fills me with joy to know you guys still have Maecius in your lives. I read the other thread, where Maecius was essentially asking if it was a good idea to start a new character, and that prompted my string of thought: Maecius is nostalgic. For the magical times you've all given him, and myself, and everyone in this community. I don't recognise most of your faces - some of you are new; in fact, most of you are new to me. But I want you to all know, I've not forgotten any of you - I sincerely hope to regain contact with the many, many of you that I know, love, and miss.
Thank you to everyone who has interacted with me, both in-character and out. It's hard for me to stay; god knows I want to visit, and perhaps I will, but my life has changed significantly, but what won't change is the sweet memory I have of this place.
Thank you all so, so much,
DA

Re: Nostalgia
My dearest sunshine, how touching to find my name in your post. Life is a crazy and beautiful rollercoaster, and even if you don't come back, reflecting so positively on the time you've had here in our weird community of geeks is really all we can hope for. Luckily, it isn't going anywhere! Maybe just knowing that we'd always welcome you back with open arms will give you a warm and fuzzy feeling while riding that RL rollercoaster.
With that said... Happy New Year ♥, 6 years later. Check your inbox (-:

I remember you as DM DarkAerial!
When everybody else was migrating to the new Dalelands server, you helped keep this server alive with your shenanigans

Re: Nostalgia
Great to see that you're still doing well, DarkAerial!
This place, I think, for many of us, is a virtual home away from home. A place where we can find people who share our interests, our outlooks, and our hobbies. Even when we're not actively playing a character, dozens of us still participate in the community through the forums. Even when we explore other servers and other games, a lot of us still think of BG as "home."
It's just nice that a place like this exists, and persists, in this day and age. It provides a communal, collaborative experience that you just don't get from other MMOs.
Anyway, I think Arasinya said it best: You're always welcome back here if you ever get the urge to reinstall the game and dust off your characters!

Re: Nostalgia
You know, no matter how much life changes, there will be always be a few occasion here and there with nothing else to do. So just open that NWN2 client extender, bear with the 1GB or more download, and just run around for old times sake. Start a new character and fumble around or just log in with an old have a look at the campfire or whatever. People come and people go, this is fine.DarkAerial2 wrote:Thank you to everyone who has interacted with me, both in-character and out. And I am not sure how I should put this... But I do recall you being a DM here and in my opinion you managed to make Maecius seem like a malicously scheming cartoon villain.
