Wand of mundane animals

Could we get a wand to summon a pet? You know, mundane animals such as: snakes, cats, dogs, goats, rabbits, possibly a cow or pig. I think it would be creative to add them in, possibly in places where you would purchase such an animal.
Farm lands, you can buy a cow.
Baldurs gate, you can buy a cat
Beregost, you can buy a dog
and so on.
re skinning the cats to make different colors wouldn't be hard for us to pull off. I understand there can be issues with lag, but it would be a fun idea =)

Enhances RP?
Doesn't hurt anyone?
Idea checks out. I'll happily support it.

Well. I do want a cat.
However
I see epic trap or trap of dispel, pull my cat wand out. Use cat on trap. Oops Fluffy just died but what ever, continue dungeon.
Sitting at camp fire. Having a good rp. Player D arrives. Emotes their cat. Ugh.
Player D emotes their cat as if it's some cute anime thing. I like my faerun as midevil fantasy not anime. Those emotes will get tiring.
Example emote. *Fluffy cocks his head with a small meow*. *fluffy walks up to you rubbing against your leg in greeting.*. *Fluffy looks at you with a crossed eye state, hissing before jumping into Janes lap purring as it whispers*.
Kind of a down hill of annoyance.
Maybe if these pets can't emote. Maybe if summons can't set off traps. Blocking their emoting might make it awesome difference between the pet and a familiar.
But I would like a cat wand. My drow would love a pet spider.

I don't think its such a problem to emote a pet. You can already do such with summons if needed and familiars and companions. Its a valuable tool, and cringe worthy rp can happen anywhere despite pets.
Traps however seems a bigger issue. This would need some thought behind it.
Creature summons however can't be controlled to run over a trap manually, familiars can be.

true.
I would love to see this as well. We could sell the wands in the placeable props merchant or something or even have an IC vendor selling orphaned cats and dogs from the last war?

I see RP opportunity for a druid/ranger/shaman running an animal shelter on the sword coast? BGTSCC SPCA? Make it so.

You can summon a creature on the far side of the trap, and it'll run to you and trigger the trap. You can also command summons to attack chests and eat traps for you (by asking them to lockpick). Such is a perfectly valid use of a summoned creature. Or a pet, in this case
Place your pet to the other side of the trap. . .watch it come running back to you for cuddles! No one said adventurers had to be nice!

Uh you just someone the cat on the trap. Like you do with summon spells. We could just make it so summons/pets can't set off traps.
As a note I did read somewhere Baldurs gate actually breads cats and encourages large strat population in the city to manage rats and prevent plagues.

The pet dies however, which is different to a summon. And it would be an evil act. The wand however is to function as a sort of OOC device so the creature can come into the world.
Its also not an easy solution of making it a single cast item. That means you can only rp having that pet once. I don't even know if it is possible to make a summon item, that when the creature dies, the summon item disappears as well.

This item is used on several other servers. Usually has 50 charges and that is because you can't really keep them persistent when the server resets or crashes or whatever.

Why take ranks in disarm Device if we just had it on a wand now. Aka the pet.

I don't see an issue throwing an animal into a trap if that's your characters prerogative. I've had stories told to me by my parents of someone doing that to a pet. Hilarious, and honestly I don't see an issue with the animals emoting. They live and breath just as your character does.
I think the DnD pte was even named trapspringer, it lived though some I know lmao

In the PnP world you could have animals. They could be trained. They even had a subsection in one of the DnD 2nd Ed player's handbook on the cost of the animal and what you could train them based on their intelligence and yours or something like that.
But those animals still had a mind of their own. If you ordered them to attack a frost giant, they would disobey unless you had ultimate obedience from them (DM discretion etc).
I think having more "summons" might be more cumbersome than RP enhancing.
Having an animal Prop however, that did not trigger traps, or interact with the environment might be a good alternative.
We already have props now... just need ones that have animal appearances. They would be static for those RP moments.

If things are over-thought to that degree, you'll find many more things are cumbersome.
I would suggest an infinite use item that summons your respective animal. If your animal dies, the item also vanishes. It would be neat if you could name the animal by naming the item as well (that was possible on PoS/ToA, I remember, with some of their item-based summons).
And, evil acts are just as valid as good acts in RP. If the DMs see it, they are free to give evil points. Just like any other aligned act. Its no different that say, a PC torturing another PC, or a PC murdering another PC. Or a druid doing the same to their animal companion!
Its a fine idea that helps generate RP, and it doesn't step on anyone's toes!
