Eheh, yes they are. You were merely unlucky, they spawn with what they'll drop when they die, except here it was an occultist with some spellcasting class levels so he could actually use the scroll

While that does really suck.
I still think it is kind of awesome that the AI is "smart enough" to do something like that.

OMG the gnolls in the talk logs are perfect for what happened too! LOL. Sorry that you got whomped by them Face but a gnoll saying you will die then a occultist laughing evily as you are waxed by a vamp and then the gnoll giggling is too funny.....
