Background: At a young age, Jayce lost his father. He had little love for the man, who was an abusive drunk. But that loss stuck with Jayce, who at the time saw it as senseless and stupid. He wanted to understand death. Why do we die? What cosmic reason is there for our finite existence? As he watched his father die from his alcoholism and loneliness, he thought to himself, "Not me. Not like this." This galvanized his need for knowledge, and at the age of 18 he started his study of the arcane. He studied enchantment, illusion, necromancy, evocation, and divination. His overarching goal is to find a path to power and possibly even immortality.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Jayce seeks any way to increase his own knowledge and power. In his mind, the two are synonymous. He won't care much for slaying kobolds...unless he learns that they have an artifact, tome, or scroll that will further enhance his knowledge and scope of power.

A note: Jayce's patron deity is Asmodeus...but Jayce himself is unaware of this. He believes that he gains his magical power through his own cunning and knowledge, and at the pleasure of Mystra. While he doesn't actively pray to her, he believes that she is his source of strength and would not actively move against her. In truth, his need for control, and his desire to control others and gain power, more closely aligns with Asmodeus, who sees him as just another expendable chess piece.
