Darkness / Invisibility

I remember back in nwn1 that both Darkness and Invisibility were "poor man's HIPS", and used extensively by stealth characters before they acquired HIPS. However, I've not spent a lot of time playing stealthy characters in nwn2. I do recall that invis by default was very buggy in nwn2, and that players could still tell were you were. It does look like BGTSCC has one of the fixes for that in place.

How exactly does Invis affect the stealth checks now? As I recall, invis should remove any worries of needing Hide and placing all the focus on Move Silently (unless your target can See Invis).

Darkness, if I recall, is suppose to block line of sight. Which should allow a "hide in plain sight" type of effect if you turn in stealth inside the darkness. Once again, assuming no Blindsight or such which bypasses the Darkness.

So, in NWN2.... can we still pop Invis or Darkness to get a HIPS effect when turning on Stealth Mode? In example, scroll of darkness... run to darkness... stealth. Pop Invis, turn on stealth. In both circumstances you should be able to let the darkness/Invis wear out and still be hidden right? (Assuming sufficient skill points).

Darkness does prevent AI from seeing you (unless they have blindsight) so you can spam sneak attacks on them. You dont even have to hide you just cast darkness and mobs will drop aggro so you can flank them. Its pretty damn strong especially if you play together with a warlock who can cast darkness infinitely. Just dont fight enemies that do have blindsight. :S

I use this extensively as a wizard. The effect of darkness however is at the end of the round upon entry, so even if you are chased into the AoE, you can still be attacked until the end of the round. The monsters that aren't able to attack normally will then lose you as a target. Monsters in the AoE who spot a foe to them on the outside of it will attack. Purge Invis will make you visible even within the AoE. "Boss" creatures, usually with gold names, will see through it.

KiStep/Dimension Door use into an AoE will not break aggro until the end of the round.

Not all of them though. The duergar monk in the UD compound for example doesn't. A friend an i killed him at lvl 12 i think? He didn't get a single attack on either of us. We then tried the Pit Fiend but he was able to see through the darkness (i died in the first round lol).

Rogue + Warlock is such a strong grinding duo. It can easily lvl in areas way above its CR.

Sorrow, did I read you correct in that invis purge removes darkness concealment?

Correct. The AoE isn't removed, just the player from the effects of the AoE.

Does it affect other forms of non-invis concealment, such as Ghostly Visage, or is this unique to Darkness?

I have not had the pleasure of being attacked while in Visage, but your mileage may vary. :-)
