Working with Evil Toons / Guilds

Hello BG,

Firstly I want to say I am glad to be back, I also want to say that although I have some drafts written down it all has to be run through with the HDMs before I can host anything. The purpose of this thread is to get a feel of what you guys want to see in the storyline and address any feedback I get from the players here. This will be a very slow build up and last for several months, pacing is something I will be taking seriously but I also want a gripping, exciting and heart-pounding storyline.

I have read through several of the other threads including the future of the UD thread, evil RP thread and several others for a general feel of what the players are looking for.

What is the plan?
Over the next few months I hope to be working with several evil guilds and toons building around a single plot which will lead to a climax. This also includes the UD, however I first need to talk with the other DMs to ensure nothing overlaps after everything is given the all clear by the CCs and HDMs.

The structure
The story willl (hopefully) have two sides; the good side and the evil side of the story with NPCs such as Sapphire, Morgenth and Scarlet Riddle making a return. Player vs player is something I plan to handle very carefully and have given a lot of thought on the risks / rewards. Risk will be a big factor and perma strikes will be optional (though greater rewards will be given to players who volenteer perma strikes) risks could also include: death of vital NPCs, loss of plot items, debuffs and many more. The storyline will be shaped by the players with very little push from me, thus I am willing to change the outcome of the ending -- which hopefully will have a permanent impact on the server. Events will be either 'planned' or 'unplanned' unplanned events are random and may lead to some players learning something other do not know -- I am hoping this will generate more RP between players and not focus on a single faction. Evil guilds will not be given special treatment, nor will good guilds -- and may opt in; or stay out of the whole affair.

What I expect from the players taking part
Be respectful, this is not a 'war' it is simply a story I have designed to give evil guilds some spot light, while also giving good toons a chance to react and generate dymanic RP as a whole. Though this may lead to player vs player conflict -- I kindly ask that you follow the rules and not treat this as a contest.

When will it start?
I don't know. Not everything I have written down may be approved by the CCs / HDMs, it could be 2 weeks - 2 months until I am given the all clear to host anything.

What I want from you
I would like your views on where you would like to see your guild go - this is a chance to express goals / plans either player side or guild side. The UD has expressed intrest in polictal RP which is something I will be looking into.

Awesome!

-

What I personally would like to see is being able to really change a aspect of the game. Be it lorewise or on a map. But something that makes people feel they really had a hand in changing something.
Which could be anything, seeing I do not know what kind of story it is going to be.
A few random examples:
- Some safe route now becomes far more dangerous.
- Chance to take out a Duke of Baldur's Gate.
- New kind enemy spawns on the server.
- Building a army to attack the server with. Army's have been done, but always with npc leaders and not pc leaders. (As far as I know).
- Destroying a structure or village/town like Nashkel or Beregost.

All in all something that we can look back at and say: Hey see that? That was our doing.

For the Aurilites I would not mind seeing them focus on spreading fear over the server or maybe only focus on the neighbouring areas close to their mountain.
Or work towards increasing the danger elements on the mountain. Like finding a way to raise the CR of all the creatures on the map.

Triel's circumstances left most involved with a sour taste.

all that aside... lets think smaller. erecting a 200' statue of bane in BG's central square is too much. lets get plots together. make some things that can get people working to much smaller goals. i understand the desire to make an impact. especially since evil has been, for the most part, left to a few good/neutral tolerable folks. and up to now, that has been the only way evil has survived on the server. and kudos to them for adapting and trudging uphill. let us focus on creating a place where evil can survive in many forms. lets focus on creating a give and take with the staff that can benefit us both. we all have HUGE plans. lets not be greedy. see that it would not benefit the server (or evil rp) to just turn this whole place upside down and shake. DMing evil rp is not as simple as it is for DMing good. lets let the server dip its toes in the water before we make it dive in. discussion. compromise. understanding. these are my goals for Evil RP DM lobo.

Evil needs to shut up already. Status Quo is better for the server. Fun is exclusively these things:
Save the city of BG
Winning always
Kill the evil mage
Save the city some more
Prevent evil from winning by threatening to leave the server.

WHEN WILL YOU GUYS EVER LEARN?! :P
It's more of a problem with accepting consequences of IC actions, and averse outcomes.

On both sides.

I've seen good and evil players guilty of this, so perhaps the rich irony is somewhat misplaced.

Well the whole new council of wrath thing could be turned into a storyline run by DM Lobo if he feels that it might be a fun concept.
That already has I believe 13 factions that are willing to work together.
Now it only needs a goal where they can work towards as a group.

I agree 100%, this is not an excuse to PVP, and it is not an excuse to destory a city or village. I would like to work with evil guilds but it has to be small to start.

I am sure if I have a word with the HDM team and CCs that I can arrange for the evil guilds to have a 'stake' which will change the world of BG.

yes.. the council is exactly what should get going. losing the leader can be used as a positive instead of a negative to get the whole plot moving and solidified. council should speak in PM's regarding our next move(s)

In that case I would like to change my vote to working a storyline surrounding the council of wrath. That way you have many little groups working to a bigger goal.
Use the fact that the original creator mysteriously vanished as a story plot hook.

Is that something you could work with?

Maybe Lobo can NPC a Lex Luthor to take over the "legion of doom"? :3

erecting a 200' statue of bane in BG's central square
That would be admirable... but mistaken. 8-)

Thanks for all your feedback guys I check this thread daily so keep me posted! I have been given permission from DM Ditto to say this, and I believe it is appriate as I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking this will be bigger than it is (although I would like to get a nice flow going)

I was allowed back onto the DM team with terms (limits) one of these limits is having no more than 7 players in each event until further notice -- I must also run all my ideas through with the HDM team first for approval so please do not be disheartend if nothing happens within the next week or so, I will be doing my very best to work with evil toons as I promised and would also like to do a UD weekly event again but all of this will take time.

This is also a mild warning for when things do take off as some of you may not be able to attend the event(s), if this happens please do not take this to heart.
In that case I would like to change my vote to working a storyline surrounding the council of wrath
My old idea was to have all guilds reacting in their own way to the story, but I have been asked to keep this simple -- thus I think this idea would work best; I'll be sending my ideas to the HDM team on Wednesday for approval, with luck we should be able to get some RP going mid week (next week)

NO NO NO! Bad Tiefling!

PLEASE leave it up to the PCs. We've had our fill of overpowered NPCs, whether they're causing problems no PC could ever dream of, or saving the day without breaking a sweat.. It just seems like DMs stroking their own ego by acting out what they could never otherwise accomplish playerside. I am not the only one with this opinion, either.

It should be left up to PCs, as Lobo refreshingly suggested. ESPECIALLY seeing as it's a player initiative to begin with.

I'm not even part of the Council of Wrath and I got agitated when it was suggested that an NPC take it over... /end rant

All that said, I think subtler evil groups should get some love too. I've got a few ideas I'd like to run by you.
PM pending, DM Lobo. ;)
