Background:
Shalos is from Lantan, the Island in the South-West of Faerun. He Originates from a small Village near Illul and is part of a huge but somewhat crazy clan of Gnomes: The Natrinas. They have the Reputation to be Troublemakers and somewhat lunatics. They Invent very dangerous Things and have extremely variable Fields of Interest, which they usually excel in but also lack the foresight to see when they are going too far.
Shalos is the youngest of 6 Brothers from his Family and most likely the most outgoing of the Bunch, even though he is introverted. He lived his Youth in the Shadow of his Family, which consisted off a lot of Geniuses but were despised outside of their Community mostly, this is why they could not permanently settle in one of the bigger Cities (for safety Reasons). He visited a lot of his Families Workshops and used his first fourty Years to learn as much from the as he could in every field imaginable. Because Shalos showed early signs of a Talent with Mechanics and Magic, his Father saw in him the Potential to be a Golem builder, which is why he pushed him much harder than all his Brothers, which became Bakers, Alchemists, Artists and similar Jobs, which are all hard and important but not quite was Golem Building was for his Father, because he himself was never able to Qualify for this Profession even though his Father and Grandfather both did. So he pushed Shalos very hard to learn as much about these Constructs as he could and was able to apply for the great arcane Academy of Lantan at the Age of 50.
The Academy is not widely known because it is not in one of the major Cities and hidden through permanent Illusions. It is a place for those few Lantanians which choose not to become pure Inventors but Study the Arcane in Addition to that, which a lot of People of this Isle look down upon. Still it is one of the highest Honors to be accepted so Shalos spent the next fifty Years of his life learning as much as he could, playing Pranks with his colleagues and perfecting his growing Skills as a Golem Maker. Those are even on the Academy a rare bunch and so he first had to Qualify through a Series of Tests (usually involving constructing Miniature Golems to outmatch those build by other Students) to apply for this Advanced course. Through Determination and after a lot of failed attempts, he made it into the Course and began to study unique Golem Models. It was at this Time when he made a bolt claim to one of the other Students in an Attempt to proof a point: He said he would be the one to build a perfect Golem, even though he had no Idea how to make such a Thing. This broad him the Name "Lunanist" (a combination of Lunatic and Perfectionist) and the laughing stock of the whole Academy for a while. Only a few People (including his Father) believed at all that he would be able to do such a thing. He tried countless nights to find something like it but never really did.
1 Year before his Arrival at the Sword Coast Shalos joined a very weird Project made by the Academy, which tried to build a flying Ship out of a special Substance, created out of Corn, to transport the harvest back to the city and later eat the Baloon. Which would have never worked but they tried anyway because the Academy Motto is: "It is not impossible until you tried it." so they started this gigantic Project and failed countless times but each Failure broad them a little bit closer to Success until about a Month ago they managed to build the first real Prototype and started testing it. Shalos was on board because he lost a bet a tenday earlier and tried to activate the Oven for the Hot air. Sadly a Storm kicked in and blew the Ship away right into the air. Shalos knocked his head and became unconscious. He was the only one left on it. Even though it was the first Flight of the Ship it managed to fly outside of Lantan and later after almost two days it crashed into the Sea, after some seagulls found it and chewed on the Baloon made out of Corn. It crashed near the Coast of Calimshan, where he was found hanging onto a piece of debris floating in the Water by a transport Ship, on its way to the Sword coast. Shalos managed to negotiate a deal by selling a lot of his Gems, he really loved and got on his way to Baldurs Gate.

Goals: He wants to create the Perfect Golem and would do almost anything to finish this Task. He is very Curious and likes to learn new things, even on the Risk of his own life. He values his Creations over almost anything else and hates when something gets destroyed.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts: Shalos is part of a Huge and Crazy Clan most of which living in Lantan. They may come to visit and can be almost any Class.
He likes to learn new Things and to study Constructs or new Books.
He would do a lot to create his own Golems or repair existing ones. He may be tempted with Materials for his Golem Craft or with building his own Golem Workshop.
