Items with spell resistance. How effective are they? Let's say you have a item with SR 30, how is the SR calculated and what effect does CL or DC have?
Thanks for your help.

Many spells
check against Spell Resistance, and thus will fail or can fail against it.
Here is the calculation:
Caster: 1d20 + Caster Level + Feats + Bonus for Assay Resistance
Defender: Spell Resistance amount + penalties to spell resistance
So, with SR 30 item, the Caster would need to be CL 30 (without Feats or casting Assay) in order to be 100% effective against the SR 30 of your item. A Caster would have to be at least CL 11 (without Feats or Assay) in order to have ANY chance of overcoming the SR 30.

In practice SR 30 items are pretty nice. Even most mobs in high CR areas will fail the check sometimes. It's better if a decent item also has SR, but SR itself isn't a bad thing to have. The highest SR items I've ever found are 28...

An NPC merchant sells a SR 32 cloak...and AMAZING piece of gear for all levels, especially low levels, where so many mob spells will be repelled (a low HP build's dream item, really).

32 SR cloak... best thing i ever bought. Im told 32 is the highest you can get on an item, can only get more using spells.
