Scrolls are scribed and posted from Soubar all the way to Nashkel directing adventuring companies to seek out Tarent Nefzen at the Friendly Arm Inn. Anyone reading a message board in Soubar, Baldur's Gate, the Friendly Arm, Beregost, Gullykin or Nashkel is likely to see the following notice:

Greetings Adventurer!

Tarent Nefzen, Scribe, Wand Crafter and Master Alchemist has need of your skills!
There are many ingredients needed in order to meet the demand for his Arcane Wonders and stock is running low. So if you seek paying work in acquiring the items he needs, rare or mundane find him at the Friendly Arm!

Adventuring is dangerous work, Tarent Nefzen takes no responsibility for any death, dismemberment, or other deformity or hardship brought on while in his employ to acquire components of any kind. Each man or woman is responsible for themselves and should only undertake quests for which they are qualified. By entering in to agreement with Tarent Nefzen the adventurer waives any right, perceived or actual to recompense for hardship, injury or death.

This is a player initiative to help out any players interested in low-mid level adventuring. Feel free to reply to this post, send me a PM or find me in game if interested. My goal is to give new or old players an in character reason to explore the server. If you don't have a group, that's ok, I will do some of the legwork to group up characters of similar levels and play times. Whenever I get a group of 3 or more characters together I will provide a level appropriate quest for you to go on in order to obtain some ingredient. It might be as simple as bringing me 10 fire beetle carapaces or some other item you can get on the server either by killing monsters or using skills. However, in some cases it may also be sending you out to get me components such as eyestocks of a Gauth, hair from the beards of Frost Giants or any number of things. The idea is to help out any new or old players that are interested in a little help in meeting others, grouping up and exploring the server with an RP purpose. So, even if you aren't interested, maybe you run into someone in game that could benefit! if so please direct them to this post!

In order to make things as smooth as possible, if posting to the forum or sending me a PM, please include the following details:
1. Do you have a group? (if not I will make every attempt to get at least 2 other players to group with you)
2. What arch-type is your character? (you can provide build if you prefer or just the general type)
3. What level is your character? (low-mid levels only please. I may expand to Epics later, though I doubt epics would be interested in anything I can offer!)
4. What days and times do you usually play? (Please either state XXXX-YYYY GMT or advise + or - your timezone is in relation to GMT, for instance, I play in Eastern time so I might say I play Mondays from 12:00 - 4:00 PM, Eastern (GMT -5) )
5. OPTIONAL: What areas have you been to? (This is so that I can send you somewhere new, if possible!)

- Any other details are fine, but these 5 will allow me the best potential to party you up (if you aren't already) and come up with a quest for you.

- Please allow me a day or two as it might take me a little time to come up with a quest that challenges the party without sending you somewhere that you have no chance to survive.

- I will grant in game rewards including gold and low all the way up to greater items, depending on the difficulty, length of time and effort (including how much time the player puts in to the RP, screenshots and story telling)... Don't expect anything earth shattering, but I certainly have some items that are better than what a low-mid level character can buy that I'll be willing to part with!

- This is a player run initiative that I am doing to simply help bring some RP, adventure and assistance to new players. If there are any seasoned veterans out there that would like to get involved as a guide, feel free to PM me with what you can support (ie level ranges, what PC's you have in low to mid level ranges, when you play, etc.) This will be a great way to meet some new players and have the chance to show them around in character.

Cailan, a dual-wielding warrior, a wizardess called Nixidea and an old man only known by 'Jenkins' with an old mastiff, whom didn't seem a particularily experienced adventurer at all, would go forth into the caves North of the Inn, setting out for the ingredients sought by the wizard. Jenkins confused the words 'Dragon's Claw' and 'Mimic's Jaw' to be some manner of wizardly terms for plants, and was eager to help. Much wonderment was had by the old man, whom had never seen Drow or mimics, let alone a dragonling before. Rumors speak of many animals that strangely accompanied the trio. Succesful in their venture, they returned to the Friendly Arm. It's said they murmured something about bandits, and the old man seemed troubled, for a time.

By the end of it all, each parted ways with some gold and a powerfully enchanted item, though the old man left some words of wisdom to the warrior, before they parted ways. It may have been a simple adventure to most, nothing new on the Coast, but at least to one old man, it meant something...

The Wyrm's claw and mimic's jaw

And there I was, in the cavern, trying to aim those dodgy and filthy fury things with my recently purchased heavy crossbow. I have to highlight how heavy it was, I am not used to such weapons. Although after a couple of shoots that nearly hit my companions, I began to get the hang of it. I am glad they didn’t notice it.

I don’t dislike what live, hide and die in shadows; the secrets that lay in darkness. It was refreshing indeed. After a long journey I could finally enjoy myself being part of adventurer’s deeds, rather than hearing them from mistral’s lips. It was fascinating to get involved in a story of such, even though the characters of this tale were quite peculiar.
Cailan, the warrior, was the least odd of them. He was a full metal man wielding two swords in a brutal dance of blood and viscera. His skills were accurate and deadly, and he knew the way quite well. He was quite used to battle and he did not even blink at killing a drow. What I found a little concerning. Beside he had a quite intimidating friend, a bear whose name I don’t remember and seem to rejoice in the blood his master spilled.
Jenkins, in the other hand, was quite odd. He seemed a country bumpkin coming from a village in the depths of the Realms, a farmer perhaps. However, for some whims of fate he could use magic; and so he did. He summoned an elk that followed him the whole way. He did seem to enjoy and awe at every single thing that crossed our path, from the armored beetles to the mimic. I can’t blame him; it was indeed quite a fascinating journey through the entrails of this land.

Or errand was to find a Wyrm claw and a mimic jaw for a wand merchant called Tarent Nefzen he promised us a great reward if we could do it within next day. I found that difficult because it is hard to find a Wyrm and even harder to defeat it; beside mimics also know how to hide from their prey. In this case: us. However, Cailan proved himself a competent adventurer and knew where to find those beasts. I can’t say the task was easy, as many times we found ourselves trying to protect the old man from the rage of angry bladelings or rabid bats. Somehow they had a preference for his blood rather than mine. I wonder if that’s related to my bloodline.
We managed ourselves to achieve our goal, not without sweat and blood. But finally we did. We killed the Wyrm and we got ambushed by a mimic; so we walk our way out through the ruins infested by kobolds. And in our way back, in the road we meet a suspicious woman. I agree with the fact she totally looked like the worst kind of bandit. However, it didn’t seem to me her intention was to rob us but perhaps mocking us and have some fun at our expense. But when the old man offered himself to be robbed I felt like kicking his butt until his hip break. I did a great effort not just to restrain myself but also to intercede for him and Cailan, as his temper also started to shake. Finally we manage to leave with our integrity safe, and only with Jenkins’ gold taken.

Back in the Friendly Arm, a dwarf was waiting with our reward… All's well that ends well.

"-Why did I sign up for this..." muttered Cailan, as he tried his best to lead his newfound group into the task at hand.
"-Oh, right, gold." He remembered briefly, and went ahead towards the cave entrance, a cave he knew all too well.
Used to fending for himself, and sometimes only having his brother to count on the "mission" seemed more challenging than he first thought and not because of the fighting, he was used to clearing whatever came at him at the dark corners of this particular dungeon, even drow scouts. But keeping this old geezer and the know-it-all girl alive was another matter entirely.
There were a couple close calls with the bladelings that surely sensed easy prey in the old man, but we finally arrived at the place where some fledgling wyrms tended to reside (I still have to figure out where they come from... If there's a larger wyrm or maybe even a mature dragon, it will prove much more troublesome).
After getting rid of most things that came at us and obtaining the promised materials we made our way out, through the shortcut in the ruins I usually used, and except for a headache I got from listening to the constant bickering of Tom and lectures given by Nixidea, we came off largely unscathed.
Now I knew there are often bandits outside of Hilltop, preying like hyenas on easy targets, those I was not concerned with at all, but of course our interested in everything friend had to get the attention of something far more dangerous than that.
I'm still not sure if she was a Zent, an assassin, necromancer, or worse, but one thing was for sure, she was eminating some serious power from her weapon alone, something I painfully have to admit even I probably couldn't handle.
Weirdly enough the cause of this encounter also by some miracle solved it as well, as Tom the Loudmouth offered his gold to the being in exchange for safe passage.
I mean, it wasn't my gold, why should I care. Still more than a loss in gold what hurt the most was my pride, as I did not exactly jump into either saving my temporary group or acted particularly intimidating, at least I don't think the dark figure thought so.
It seems I got more out of this little errand than I expected, and ensured myself once again that there are still much greater heights that I must reach, both as a swordsman and as a human, I have to pursue that goal at all costs if I am to make something of myself here, and if that wasn't enough, I still have something to prove to someone. That reminder alone was worth going a little out of my way for once.
By the end of it all I even found the old geezer and the brat somewhat tolerable... Maybe I am changing too much, or maybe I just need a solid rest for once.
The Friendly Arms Inn welcomes everyone, after all.

- Cailan De'Rhan
