Moderation team feedback

Unread post by Akroma666 »

I am a big fan of transparency, I believe information should not be kept private and should be shared with the community. I write this because the moderator team is on the verge of resigning. While I understand there are people who are upset with us and for that I truly apologize I want the community to know everything we've done has been in enforcement of rules set from higher up without any consideration or feedback from the team as a whole. We have never got to create our own code of conduct, offer feedback or change a rule we disagreed with before it was implemented, or even determine punishment for the fraction infringed with a unanimous vote.

At risk of having things return to the way they were before the moderation team was implemented or worse hiring new rookie recruits to moderate your posts I asked that you share your positive experiences with the HDMs, Global admins, I need them with the moderators themselves. How have we done? Do you like knowing you can call on us for help? Share your experiences with the community.

while i do not know all the inner workings of all that go on in the forums, i do know that (to me) the forums have been SOLID GOLD in the last 6 months or more. any cog in that clockwork leaving seems to me like something that should be avoided.

I agree with aaron22. The forum ambiance seems to be more friendly overall. There have been occasions over the years where trolls lingered in every corner of our online community and some of the worse ones have been removed thankfully. Now it seems the Moderator Team is very quick to react to infractions against the forum rules. Instead of seeing trolls I mostly see the remains of trolls left by our knightly moderators. Thank you for the great work!!!

Enforcement is different from rule creation, and there were suggestions from the onset accounted for. I don't understand the angle you're coming at with this but it doesn't come across in a positive note, much less productive or appreciative. You may want to moderate your own post.

I've never been a fan of moderation and while I can't say the moderation felt overly heavy or abusive I'd rather see it dissappear save for the OOC personal attacks and spammers.

I obviously have no idea what might be going on behind the scenes, but I do know that the little I have heard has been nothing but positive.
So I agree with Aaron's statement.
Even talked to someone in game a few days ago who said he came back to play on this server after hearing about the many positive changes that occurred over the last 6 months.

I think this thread is a good idea however so the people who do have a problem with management can state it here and more importantly explain why.
If noone responds you obviously do not need to change anything.
If people do, you will then have a clear overview of the problems that need fixing.

To answer the questions myself:
How have we done?
While I'm definitely not a fan of to much censorship, reading through the forum I haven't notice any mods going overboard. Maybe sometimes a tiny bit fast of giving warnings of possible discussions going to far, as I believe discussions (even very heated ones) are needed in a community to progress and evolve, but haven't seen anything that would make me think they are overdoing it.

Do you like knowing you can call on us for help?
I did not but good to know.

Share your experiences with the community.
Not a experience but want to end with the following statement which goes for the entire team:

Keep up the good work!

I don't know Akroma... without the moderation team things could very much go back to the way they were.

In my experience they've been professional and friendly, even when slapping my wrist for quoting a post that breaks forum rules or breaking them myself. Only thing I would say is anyone that gets a fancy colored name occasionally has to deal with difficulties on the forums (and sometimes in game too). I certainly understand the frustrations, but it comes with the territory. I joined QC to 'give back' to this server that gives me a fantastic outlet for my RP and gaming itch, so I just try to remember that when accusations or other negativity fly. No matter what, there are always going to be difficulties dealing with an online community, but I would say the moderation team has been a welcome and necessary addition.

As long as your trying to make the server a better place, keep going.

If your pushing agendas or being pushed to push agenda, I would bow out. Never noticed anything wrong with forums for the most part, if players are abusing the moderators to jump into disputes, push it up to the server admins, and let them deal with it :)

Whats the drama? is it the report button? private guild sections?

there prolly is a simple solution.

plus we need people to protect us from the erp'ers

I stand by my words. Spoken openly, and not in violation of any rules of the forums. Sometimes we need to take a step back in order to move forward. As of now most if not all of the team is considering resigning. This comes because of the rules we are sent to enforce which we do not agree with. I respect all members of this community who mean well, but i feel we have come to a point in which we need to be allowed to say "we don't like this and want to debate it" first before we are told to go rule Nazi the suggestion forums again. It's rules like this that we disagree with. I can't speak for my team, but i want freedom of speech, off topic but relevant ideas that build to threads, and the ability to pull someone aside and let them know how they upset someone else in the community before their post spirals into a mud slinging contest.

I feel like we tried to shield most of the community from the trolls and heated topics. It's nice to know you guys are happy with the forums as a whole the last few months.

I don't mind the mods one bit, having been slapped on the wrist recently the pm was polite, to the point and explained what I had done wrong, I fully agree'd with the modder, I got angry for a moment and used the forum to lash out at someone.

Sometimes they can of course be too hasty to close down a heated but good discussion on the suggestion ideas, but then sometimes not quick enough when people go off topic to slag off one others rp and mothers or whatever we do.

I have seen a much more wide array of people using the forum now in turn as they are perhaps more likely to use it knowing if someone trolls or goes after them the mods are impartial and will step in if required.

Good work.

I think the general tone of the forums have improved since the mod team began. It would be a shame if you all resigned.

Why are you all thinking about quitting?
Akroma666 wrote:or worse hiring new rookie recruits to moderate your posts.
Not sure why you think new mods are so bad. Honestly it sounds a bit sad that you think new mods are the worst possible thing ever as if others cannot perform this task.

The mods here are fine. I have no problem with them in any way shape or form. Although I disagree with the limited freedom of speech we have here that is a rule not a mod.

By comparison the worst mods I have ever seen are on the paradox forums. They enact silly rules to prevent discussions from happening. If you make a post about "my audio isn't working" they will lock the thread and give you a strike against your account. If you ask why they did this they will tell you that you spammed a topic that already exists and will add a second strike against your account for talking to a mod. So you post your question in the original "my audio isn't working" thread and. . . yup you guessed it they lock the thread and issue a third strike and lock you out of all sub forums for committing thread necromancy. Don't worry though they will never tell you how many strikes it takes until you are banned or if they will eventually be removed. Don't bother asking. . . .

Fantastic games, the best devs I have ever seen, and a fairly good community. Sadly the mods are really just the worst. Ok maybe not the worst but definitely terrible.
