Hello,
I have been playing the game for almost a month now. I have to say I really enjoy it, however it has a steep learning curve and the game does nothing to help facilitate the learning process. In particular, when playing solo and die I obviously lose experience. As a new player, I have died countless times to learning my limits and understanding the capacity in which I am "safe" to farm or grind so to speak. The problem I have with this is in order for me to move on and explore I feel I am punished by the unknowns of these new places without understanding a "general" idea of how difficult these areas may be. The only reason I have not quit this game entirely, is due to the fact that I am just stubborn. There may be other players that give up long before the month is over going through the game. Its unfortunate because outside of this I have had positive experiences with the few people I have interacted with, however a big part of the game is improving my character- at least for me. I have no gripes about losing experience upon death, its just that there is no gauge outside of dying to understand the "areas".
Let me reiterate. I like the game. This is not just a rant.
On a final note. I am not sure, but as a new player it seems we are few and far between. I will continue to play, but something should be done to help the players ease into the game. If you would like more of an opinion I am free to give it, otherwise I will continue to hunker down and bullhead through the game. Case in point- it can be very frustrating to play this game with your first character.
Thanks and see you on the field!

Re: New players experience
Hi snailz, welcome to the server!
While I can't do much for the way we ease folks in to the server, I have started a thread for folks just like you. A player run initiative that I am hoping to use to group up new folks like yourself with others for some adventures that are appropriate to your level range. I'll give you IC directions to complete a quest and also will look for others within your level range to group you up with, if you're having trouble finding a group. See the below link if your interested, in the meantime I recommend you use the scry tool to find others within your level range or even post a comment stating 'Looking for Group' or 'LFG - Level 4 Fighter' or whatever. Feel free to send me a tell in game as well, I have plenty of lower level characters that I'd be happy to login with and help you as you explore. I'm sure sending a tell to other players will result in similar results as our player base on the whole is a very welcoming and helpful community (no matter what you read between us in various threads!)
Anyway, keep having fun and here's a link to my thread, should you be interested:

Re: New players experience
Just my personal opinion
The game is a bit more friendly to parties and I would suggest using your scry tool located in your inventory to find like level players or post Loooking for group. Others do this and it may help you greatly.
Out of curiosity what did you roll? Sometimes advice on builds can be found here and that may help your survial. Further depending on your class and back ground there are some groups who may help you out more then others because of Role Play.
The server has a lot of hidden stuff about it and it is impossible to know any of it when your new and even a guide book would be so large I don't know who would read it. I did find asking questions often helped and you can always write the DM team or ask the many veteran characters and players such as Chad and others what ever you like.
I do hope you enjoy the play and hope your character gets to form some interesting stories.

My personal view is in red, for I am fancy.

If you need some company, and catch me in game, send a tell. I can grab a comparable level character and/or act as a guide.
Vogar Eol - Dwarf, "I likes pixie wine. It just be hard catching enough pixies to squeeze."
Rashal - Lady's Man, "What do you call a male elf? Pathetic, as it were."

Thanks for the replies and I will check out the thread suggested. I am currently a level 8 fighter. I figured that would be the safest route to learn the game, however I recently hit level 8 and did not get my bonus feat? May it be a bug?

What is your characters name? Is your login name the same as your forum account name? This info would be helpful to anyone willing to lend you a hand in game.

If you need someone to group with you can send me a tell. I am usually on Fenar Ironfort, but I have a lvl 6 or so fighter/dragon warrior I have been trying to lvl. I would be happy to run some rp or dungeons with you.

I have a level 9 roguey type actually. Still relatively new but I'm familiar with most of the areas in that level range - send me a tell.

Re: New players experience
As another new player said recently, the best time to explore is -just- after you get a level and you have no excess XP to lose if you die
