Inhundyl's Primer

Unread post by Glowfire »

Has anyone been using it?

I had selected this spell (on a wizard) because I thought it was cast on the wizard and lasted 24... didn't read carefully enough, as it's actually targetted on the foe.

Power Word Kill (a 9th lvl spell) would only work on targets with 150 HP. It seems like much spell wastage as creatures have rather high HP. Casting a lvl 7th spell and another high level spell to disable a target seems rather costly.

Looking for some thoughts and experiences!

I use PWK rather often, the intent being knowledgeable about the NPC foe, combining the damage output of another spell (maximized orb of force for 180 as an example with a critical RTA) and following it up PWK takes care of most surface creatures. Antillar's Bane, and a spell like this, are essentially just attempts to hone in on the effectiveness of power word spells, but are best for will DC penetrating builds.

It should, too bad it's a feat and not a spell

Interesting to hear you've made some use of it, AoS. I forgot about the other spell you mentioned.

The downside is that both require will saves and can't be quickened. I kind of feel a save or die spell is more useful?

I'm of the firm opinion that, due to grossly bloated HP scores on monsters, that the entire Power Word line of spells needs a revamp for PvE only. PvP usage is to remain on the HP standards it currently is, although I think the effects for Power Word Weaken & Maladroit could be changed for PvP as well (because seriously, both those spells are completely useless and -never- used ever).

Power Word: Weaken - Reduce enemy strength by 1/2 if HP below 50%, 1 round/caster level.
Power Word: Maladroit - Reduce enemy dexterity by 1/2 if HP below 50%, 1 round/caster level
Power Word: Disable - Reduce Enemy HP to 1 + Paralysis for 1d4 rounds if HP below 25%
Power Word: Blind - If HP 51-75%, blind for 1d4+1 rounds. If HP 26-50%, blind for 1d4+1 minutes. If HP 25% or less, blind permanently.
Power Word: Stun - If HP 51-75%, stun for 1d4 rounds. If HP 26-50%, stun for 2d4 rounds. If HP 25% or less, stun for 4d4 rounds.
Power Word: Petrify - If HP 25% or less, petrify.
Power Word: Kill - If HP 25% or less, kill.

Inhundl's Primer could increase each respective percentage by +10% for PvE, and +50 HP as it currently is for PvP.

Anthilar's Bane could be +20% for PvE
