Spell seeds

I have notice when new spells are added wizards need to rcr to get access, here is an idea that I have, I think the spells could be mechanically added via scripting, but not sure

we generate spell seeds, for the new spells and add them to the loot table, the player can turn in the spell seeds for the news spells via dialog, something to edit spell books.

That way the new spells are not a freebie, will cause more players to adventure and also a gold sink.

So let say a player find spell seed (mischieveius image ) the player goes to the npc, and the npc via dialog/script adds the spell to their spell book, and deletes the seed.

just an idea,

it work well from my nwn 1 server, and created a little economy

Sounds good.

not bad, tho seeds are suppose to be pretty damn rare and only handle working with epic spells (custom and "stock")

however the new spell thing is more a sorcerer pain in the ass than it is a wizards, scrolls can be made and a wizard is fine but a sorc is still screwed

It would be neat if an NPC dialogue/script could just wipe a spellbook, then prompt you to restock it with currently available, IG spells. Would help sorcerers immensely, but wizards would default back to the minimum learned.

well wizards can already remove spells anyway, something for sorcs would be nice, even if its limited to once a week/month

Sounds legit. Is this only Sorcs? Or are SS and FvS on that list too? There are a couple of spells I took that were new that I find completely useless in RP and to me and thus are a waste of spell slots for my FvS....like dropping Entropic Warding was the stupidest thing I ever did but I got to test the new spells a bit.....

mmmm yea i suppose it would have to be for all spontaneous casters so sorc, bard, SS and FS

yes, it would also alleviate some of the dm's time having to deal with rcr because of spell choices etc.

so hypothletically, what do you think the cost would be on the open market?

remember the seed will be part of the loot system, so the prices may vary greatly, until players gather hordes of seeds.

if one of the coders could chime in on it, that would be nice.

I know messing with spellbooks is a pain, and would have to generate a list of every spell for every class.

the dialog would be something like

You wish to learn a new spell, you must first chose a spell to lose

Select Spell Level
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
9

//check players spell book

you wish remove spell magic missle

//check inventory for spell seed

magic missle is a level 1 spell, and you wish to replace with what

//list player spell seeds in inventory

level 1 spell seed- burning hand available

confirm spell change magic missle (spell ref) for burning Hands

yes
no

//remove spell seed "burning hands from inventory

sucess, with the power that be, you have exchange magic missle for burning hands

also may be limit to once a week or something like that, or could even charge a fee so it's not overly used

so the over all befits

generate some trader rp
generate some arcane rp - temple of mystra would be a good place for the npc
another gold sink
dm's don't have to mess with rcr's deleveling - more time for rp stuff

player could rp trading out the spell, in one form another, whether its through prayer (fvs) or through blood (sorc/bard) or something to that effect

well again seeds are mostly for epic spells, so i really wasnt considering that at all :P

was thinkin just a normal NPC that will allow you to redo your spell list if you are a spontaneous caster but restricted to either once a week or once a month

wizards dont need help with swapping spells

Seeds or no seeds. Just giving the players a way to RCR only their spells is a good thing. There are many spell choices here and mostly for Arcane it is a pain to select spells. Hopefully we can see this around this time next year ha ha! :P

Seriously though it would be a good thing and it would alleviate some new player frustrations with spontaneous casters for sure.

Give DMs all the new spells as scrolls? Or add all the new ones as scrolls to the loot table.

DMs have some of the old bunch of spell additions so this should be possible.

It seems easier and better IMO to just add the scrolls directly to the loot table rather than a whole new system with spell seeds.

yes thats another reason why i dont think seeds things are needed, however scrolls only address wizards

well the point is not give spontaneous casters easy access to their spellbook, their should be a challenge, that is why wizards are wizards and one of the benefits of the being a wizard.

There should be cost for changing spell on spontanous caster, else we are just giving them the free wizard ability.

as far as the term -epic seed- it just, "spell seed" something unquie to a nwn 2 server due to limitations of the game engines it is just a work around for nwn 2 mechanics and would help the dm's out about all the rcr request with the goal of changing out a spell

it is not pnp, just loosely based on it

you could also make the spell seed tradeable so it increases economy and then make the NPC that clears the spell cost a healthy sum to use to provide a sink. good for players. good for ecomony. good for server. seems like a no brainer.
