Clerical questions.
Hello!
I was wondering about a few things regarding clerics.
1. Cleric turning.
What classes actually progress this along with the cleric-Base class? (Herophant, battle cleric etc.) And. Will a negative Cha-modifier affect the end result of the turn-calculations.
2. Domains
Some domains scale with your cleric levels. However... does this only affect pure-cleric levels. Or is it character levels? Like the death-domain negative-plane avatar. What if you got 6 levels of cleric and the rest is just prestige-classes?
3. Worship.
Some mortals worship several gods. If I were to make a cleric of tyr. Give him/her some of tyre dogmas so to follow protocols... could I then still worship other gods of similar aspects to those of tyr? Either gods of other racial panthions of similar viewpoints. .. or just a deity that is similar. Bear in mind that I'm well aware of what the rules say here. This is not a vague attempt to get mixed domains or something. This is purely if a cleric who finds equal opportunities from TWO (or more) deities with the same domains.. could go ahead and worship them (in his/her mind) equally?

Thanks! Looking forward to hearing your inputs!

Re: Clerical questions.
1 - Just a few classes are able to turn undead. For my account cleric, paladin and morninglord are the only that can give you turning progression. Feel free to add any other here, it will even help me hehe. Hierophant and Warpriest doesn't give you progression. About CHA, yes, it will impact. When you turn you make 2 rolls. First is to check the level of the undeads you can turn, the second will be the "dmg" roll, that may paralise, or even destroy them, depending on the ammount of HD your turning attempt can do.
2 - Its for cleric levels, unless you have feats that allow you to progress your CL on the clr divine book, that can be taken normally when choosing a feat or a feat granted you for free from some prestige class.
3 - A cleric is a priest, who also wield weapons in the name of his deity. He believes with so much fervor on a god and "its way" that it become a living beacon of the powers of his deity. Off course clerics know that other gods exist, but they do follow the ways of his deity, and his deity only. Play a cleric that wield the powers from a deity, but lets say, worship other gods, is kinda of "heretic" hehe

Re: Clerical questions.
1 - Hierophant should progress turning as well.
2 - No, there are no feats that will progress domain abilities past your cleric level. Some domains are only really beneficial if staying pure/mostly pure cleric while others are obviously utilized even for dips in to the class.
3 - Actually Clerics would venerate multiple gods in some circumstances. Using Tyr as an example, the priest would certainly venerate Tyr above all others, but would also pay homage to Torm and Ilmater on occasion as they are part of the "Triad" alongside Tyr. Tyr is your 'patron deity' but it doesn't mean you wouldn't pray to Ilmater in a time where you need to heal many wounded warriors or Torm when you need some extra bit of bravery before a major battle.
It is unlikely that a Cleric would venerate deities outside of those known to be aligned with their own, and obviously it would make little sense for a priest of Tyr to pay homage even by lip service to Bane, for instance.

Re: Clerical questions.
1. As far as I am aware only Cleric, Paladin (4th level), Blackguard (3rd level), Morninglord & Hierophant advance cleric turning. Charisma influences both turning rolls & turning damage. They are as follows:
1d20 + CHA to determine the Maximum HD undead creature affected as per the following table:
[th=2]Turning Check Table[/th]
[th]Check Result[/th][th]Most Powerful Undead Affected[/th]

0 or lowerCleric's Level -4

1-3Cleric's Level -3

4-6Cleric's Level -2

7-9Cleric's Level -1

10-12Cleric's Level

13-15Cleric's Level +1

16-18Cleric's Level +2

19-21Cleric's Level +3

22+Cleric's Level +4

Turning Damage, on the other hand, is 2d6 + Cleric Level + CHA to discern the total HD of affected undead. So by way of example a level 30 cleric with 16 (+3) CHA could roll a maximum of 12+30+3 = 45 HD worth of undead. Empowered Turning and Sun Domain both increase this damage roll by their respective percentages, and their effects stack.
Affected undead are completely destroyed if your turning damage is 2x their HD.
2. Only pure cleric levels scale relevant domain powers, with the exception of Cleric/Druids with the Animal Domain. Their levels stack for the purposes of calculating their companion's HD.
3. A cleric can only have one primary patron to whom they pray for their spells. This does not prevent them from praying to other deities or other pantheons, but they can only receive their spells from -one- of them in the FR campaign setting.
There are examples of NPCs who are clerics/chosen of dual (or even triple!) deities: Qilue Veladorn, chosen of Mystra & Eilistraee; Embrae Aloevan, chosen of Mystra & Sehanine Moonbow; Tethtoril of Candlekeep, chosen of Mystra, Oghma & Deneir. So while it is possible, it is also very rare and probably requires DM permission to have that much interest from multiple deities in your character.
My soon-to-be retired main, Aeili, is a devotee of Mystra & Sehanine particularly.

Warpriest grants full turn progression. It's a custom change on the server.ginsu wrote:1 - Just a few classes are able to turn undead. Re: Clerical questions.
Does Hierophant give turning progression? A couple of it's abilities are based around turning so if it doesn't it's... Questionable

Pugratix to a snarky militia man: "Mmmm. Not yet. I will live for hundreds of years and be heralded as one of the greatest forces of destruction on the face of the world. The only thing you can destroy is the outhouse."

Re: Clerical questions.
I was surprised to find that Silverstar did not get any progression in turning, which unfortunately ruled the class out for my Selunite Cleric.
Maybe it is not widely felt that Silverstar merits such?

Might be an oversight. The moon domain even allows shapechanger turning.

1. Warpriest does gives Turn Undead progression, you just don't get the turn Undead feat.ginsu wrote:1 - Just a few classes are able to turn undead. 2. Domain abilities are Cleric class only. Only spells related to domain progress with caster level along with cleric spells.
3. You can pay heed to other gods, but you don't pray to them. For example, my amazon priestess prayers to Silvanus, but will acknowledge other gods of nature for their hands in situation such as praising Sune when she stands in the face of beauty. However, she will pray to Silvanus for aid in protecting the forest.
