Not only is this area is a vital bypass, but it has the fastest way back to Baldur's Gate for the southern folks - the boat! *flails*

How were the areas chosen? Is there a way of looking at traffic patterns?
I have to guess that large swaths of the UD are used less than a couple of these surface areas.

The boat (and the lighthouse) will be moved to the Lion's Way instead. Where you currently transition to "Coast South of Candlekeep" on the Lion's Way will also take you straight to High Hedge or the road north of Beregost instead (after I finish reworking the transitions).

Candlekeep liked the lighthouse so much we stole it. We need it we swear.

What of the fire beetle spawns? Are we dropping the acid beetles in favor of them?

Can you please make sure that's an option from roaring shore too? Thanks Endelyon!

I have to agree that area was a vital part of leveling up. Between levels 13 and 15 give or take, depending on your build.

Yep, one of my favorite places to grind at ~ level 7-9, and have met a couple players there that I still RP with now and again... All you need is some potions of endure elements or a cheap amulet of fire protection and AC at about ~35+ and you could get XP quickly in that area.
I do hope as we reduce areas that we take in to account things such as this. However many areas we end up with we need enough areas with decent spawn rates to support the various levels of PC's throughout the server. Not that I want the Lion's Way to be "dangerous" but the Coast South of Candlekeep and then at a bit higher level High Hedge was a decent place to gain XP relatively quickly at lower levels (7 up to about 10 or so gave a pretty high XP/kill rate). Areas such as this being removed makes sense to consolidate the server, but it does remove a good place to travel for XP. That boat was also an important part of shortening the quest run for players that do the weekly quests.

Wait, are those areas gone for good? Or just temporarily removed for a remodel?

So is the entire back-way from BG to Nashkel gone, then?
Are there any areas that allow foraging, especially for bait, now that the east river map was removed?
Are new areas replacing these, especially the one in the OP, being a relatively necessary leveling area?
I realize this will never be a democracy, but how were these areas chosen? It seems to me that if areas are to be cut they could be less impactful to the majority if UD areas were removed, or unused guild areas, or some of DM only maps.
