Newbie Gear

Unread post by DeepFriedMoose »

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out some newbie gear. All the stuff in the shops (that I've found so far) seems way out of my price range, and it's out me in a bit of a paradox for adventuring; I can't get out there without some decent gear, and I can't afford decent gear until I get out there to adventure.

A little advice would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

go outside to the northern farmlands and head past the campfire where there will be a merchant there selling gear more in your price range.

have fun

That's great, thanks very much! I'll try that when I get home today.

They should really just put the newbie vendor stuff in Maltz. It is far more common it seems for a PC to miss the newbie vendor because it's out in the middle of nowhere (despite being the same zone they spawn in) than if it was an actual store in the city.

I would recommend stopping by Maltz' and Sorcerous Sundries in the East Gate district once you've got your basic gear. There you will find a Backpack of the Hearty (+4 hp) and some potions of barkskin and mage armor, which make the first 3-4 levels a lot easier. :)

Okay, so I'm in BG North Farmlands now, and all I see is a carnival and a couple of caves. What am I doing wrong, here?

Talking of Northern farmlands... That area feels very... Useless... Noone seems to use the arena, the carnival looks nice and all but doesn't serve much of a purpose besides offering aid potions and the bandit cave is there but that leads to another confusing point...

The bandit caves are in one area, the eastern coast with the wolves and bandits probably the easiest to start with in another... Then there is the graveyard with CR 1 in yet another area... Dunno feels like these areas are pretty spread out which makes it harder to find the right place to go at the beginning... Of course one can ask people but it's just not very intuitive.
