Two bugs - Character "teleporting" and transition spawns

Hi, I started a character on this server and have more or less given up because of these two problems.
When fighting with a ranged weapon, and a summon active, I will frequently be teleported right next to the enemy I am shooting at. This typically results in instant death. To add insult to injury, the experience for killing NPCs is very low, and the death penalty is high enough to make it difficult to proceed.
Just as frustrating is transitioning to a new area, and finding the loading screen finally clears to the image of my dying character. It seems that spawns are stuck right next to transition points, which seems like an odd choice of location given that it results, again, in a fairly punitive death penalty. I had decided to try and run some quests, which are more fun than grinding anyway, but this has put paid to that idea.
As a side note, it might be useful to have some kind of guidance on how to get to a level where these issues are not immediately fatal without needing to grind or travel through dangerous areas to get to quest locations (in my case, Beregost, which is sadly not a ferry location). I appreciate that the playerbase is probably quite familiar with the server, but there may be others like me who have attempted to make a start and found it impossible to do so.
