Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
Improved Weapon Finesse
Requirements: Weapon Finesse
- A character with this feat is adept at using medium and large weapons subtly and effectively, allowing him to make melee attack rolls with his dexterity modifier instead of strength (if his dexterity is higher than his strength). He, however, does not gain any other benefit that is limited to just light weapons.
- Use: automatic when using any of the following weapons: Bastard sword, Katana, Dwarven waraxe, Greatsword, Greataxe, Warmace, Halberd, Falchion, Scythe, Battleaxe, Warhammer, Flail, Longsword, Scimitar, Morningstar, Quarterstaff, and Club.

Basically, it would be kind of like Intuitive Strike feat without the monk level requirements.

Re: Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
I'm in favor of this feat! Could limit it to "Slashing" and "piercing" type of weapons if someone can't imagine using a warmace with finesse.

What about a Quarterstaff?
In any case, this is something that has an existing topic in QC, stay tuned...

Re: Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
have you never seen martial arts fights with a pole or quarterstaff? seems odd i know but yea some of those are finesse
tho D&D quarterstaves are usually depicted at being bulky and heavy, nothing stopping one from making a slimmer one thats easier to handle i guess

I'm pretty sure omitting quarterstaff was probably an oversight.Blackman D wrote:have you never seen martial arts fights with a pole or quarterstaff? seems odd i know but yea some of those are finesse

Re: Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
We have Intuitive Strike, and Brutal Throw, thus you just have a script that basically adds the difference between a character's strength and dexterity modifier as attack bonus.7threalm wrote:as long as a int bonus doesn't apply wouldn't be that bad, but mechinallyl i dont know if it can be done the way weapons are coded
Swashbuckler's Insightful strike would be limited to light weapons only.

Duelist's 2d6 extra piercing damage already works with spears. Oh, and few years ago I actually played a strength based Barbarian 20/Duelist 10 on this server.7threalm wrote:dueliest bonus would apply to large piecring weapons,

Re: Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
so dexers gaint better crit x3 (or x4) and +6ish dmg to for two handed weps, + ac bonus from dex
and what extra dmg from str, then you add how power attack adds to it
thats +6 or +12 or double frenzed
assuming these weapons can be power attacked
I think thats a bit overpowered,
unless you cant use power attack with these weapons
so epic dodge/ high ab
power attack/improved power attack (+6, +12 or +12 +24 frenized)
etc etc.
this would bump dexter dmgs up quite a bit
(if power attack is disabled it wouldn't be that bad)

Re: Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
7th realm, you can already make a halfling/gnome Swashbuckler 6/Fighter 12/Frenzied Berserker 5/Weapon Master 7 or a Swashbuckler 7/Fighter 8/Frenzied Berserker 10/Weapon Master 5... or whatever variation of these classes and you will get 2.5*Int modifier to damage when you use a small sized Finesse Weapon with nothing in your off hand, and yes, you already get Power Attack damage on top of it.
For example handaxe has base multiplier of x3. Rapier has base threat range of 18-20. You are not exactly introducing anything new to this game. Just giving other races an opportunity to use similar builds, and do 1.5*Int damage with greatsword.
A strength based build will out damage you, and you can already use a +2 Dexterity race to make something like a strength based Fighter 14/Fenzied Berserker 6/Weapon Master 7/Shadowdancer 3...

The funny thing is, this build you mentioned most likely has 10 levels of Shadowdancer, and 10 levels of Frenzied Berserker. What are your remaining ten levels going to be? Fighter? And let us not forget that to get Epic Dodge, you need that dexterity of 25, which means that you have less points to spend on intelligence to raise your damage via Combat Insight.7threalm wrote: so epic dodge/ high ab

Re: Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
Combat Insight costs Combat Expertise and Epic Prowess
Improven Weapon Finesse costs Weapon Finesse.
That's already 5 less feats a character can pick. Shadowdancer costs 2 feats and hefty skill point investment unless rogue, or another feat.
5 feats invested with seperate stats for AB and damage to do what people using strength do for free. You also have no carry capacity.
The number of feats for it to be viable removes its over powering nature. Furthermore, earliest such a character can come online is level 21, if not 23 if not possessing extra feats.

Re: Feat Suggestion: Improved Weapon Finesse
but the main downfall is you have to play a halfing--- a very unpopular raceComments Only wrote:7th realm, you can already make a halfling/gnome Swashbuckler 6/Fighter 12/Frenzied Berserker 5/Weapon Master 7 or a Swashbuckler 7/Fighter 8/Frenzied Berserker 10/Weapon Master 5... or whatever variation of these classes and you will get 2.5*Int modifier to damage when you use a small sized Finesse Weapon with nothing in your off hand, and yes, you already get Power Attack damage on top of it.
