Classic Ranger Build

I haven't played in years and was looking for some help on a more classic Ranger Build.
Was considering Ranger/Fighter for the added feats but I'm also Considering Ranger/Rogue for the added Skills.
Also Hide in Plain Site (ranger Feat) on this server does it work like the SD Hide in Plain Site.
If not is it worth taking 3 Shadow Dancer Levels?
Lastly, I'm having a hard time deciding between Archery or Two Weapon Fighting... I'm leaning towards archery and as a Melee option i can use a Long Sword and Shield..
Not sure though. Any advice would be great.
Thanks

In a fashion, though the ranger version can only be used in outside areas. That precludes you from HiPSing in most dungeons, and (I believe) most of the Underdark.

So to clarify, If i want HIPS, i am better off going 14 ranger, 3 fighter and 3 SD before lvl 20 so i can use HIPS everywhere?

If you want a classic ranger, I presume that means no spellcasting of any kind.
In that case, you might be interested in a build such as Fighter 12/Rogue 5/Wilderness Stalker 10/Shadowdancer 3 - or whatever variation.
But if you want to use ranger, sword and board combined with archery, then have a look at the Brutal Throw feat. It allows you to get STR instead of DEX to your throwing axe/dart AB. Then you will naturally be more proficient with your sword and board because you get both more damage and AB from higher STR.
The other way would be to use Weapon Finesse with a shortsword and bow. Allows you to just pile up on dexterity, and get bleeding damage from Expose Weakness.
As for ranger builds, Ranger 30 is solid option on its own due to this server's spellcasting changes, but if you just want the ranged feats you can leave Ranger levels at 11 and add whatever other bases classes or PRCs you want on top of it.
So in otherwords, what sounds like the most amount of fun to you?
