A simple sheet of vellum finds itself pinned to the bulletin board set afore the Elfsong Tavern in Baldur's Gate easternmost district. In a careful script, it reads:

"Seeking to sell a battleaxe of masterful make, imbued with enchantments offering such might to the wielder a mere graze with the blade ought shatter bone.

As I value my time, I prefer not to count through scores of bags, and would appreciate payment in form of ten-pound gold trade bars, minted with proper seals, as one would in no doubt find available from any respectable trading company.*

I trust a fair starting bid to be at least eighty such trade bars. Please mark your offer below, and leave sufficient information for contact with fair Lady Alyth of the Elfsong if I am personally unavailable to receive such within my room.

Respectfully,
Thotamesis al-Nyth"

The message occupies perhaps a third the span of the vellum, leaving blank space below for potential buyers to mark their current bid in courtesy of those wishing to compete.

((*As trade bars are obviously unavailable as in-game currency for large exchanges, calculation is made on 1000 gp = 2 ten-pound gold bars))

Draviir speaks up, "80 trade bars isn't sufficient, how about 100 bars for this weapon?"

He marks his bid down accordingly.

*A woman in red robes walk past the vellum scroll pinned to the bulletin board. She takes a moment to inspect the script, before she opens a small leather pouch fastned in a chain of delicate metal rings by her hip. From it she produces a slender feather and a modest vial of ink. She proceeds to write down her name on the initial blank space designated for potential clients.*

It would read as follows:
Lilith Draq'valeri, offering 120 trade bars, frequent at the Blade & Stars.

*There is a reasonable space after the primary bid, left in consideration for possible competition.*

Coming out of the Elfsong after downing a few ales, Draviir notices a change to the poster. He walks up, perhaps emboldened by the drink, and re-marks his own bid.

"300 should do it!"

///

300 'trade bars' bid.

*A day passes and the woman returns. She takes note of the sudden competition and lets her earlier bid get crossed with a jet-black line of ink. She then continues to fill the space after the intercrossed count with a new one.*

It would read as follows:
Lilith Draq'valeri, offering 120, 320 trade bars, frequent at the Blade & Stars.

Draviir again rearranges his bid. He writes '500' in bold strokes.

///

Bid now increased to 500 trade bars.

With the ink from the last alteration to the vellum long since now bone-dry, a pillar of black robes topped with an equally dark turban removes the affiche from the billboard and moves inside the tavern. With severe doubts that the finishing bid for the relic would find a challenge, Thotamesis makes effort to determine a means to contact the victor. Moreover, it seems that the rumors of 'Lady' Alyth Elendara's banking services were in need of investigation as well.

((Bidding closed, winning bid: Draviir, for 500 gold trade bars (250,000 gp); PM sent.))
