Summons and Languages

I do really like how you can so much more easily use other languages now via the usual chat box instead of the pop-up one.

But what was lost in that change is the ability to make summons talk in another language, this used to be possible before. Note, you can still make summons talk common but no other language.

Would it be possible to enable the language selected to be spoken by the summon as well, without losing the changes made on language use via regular chatbox?

Giving this topic a necro-bump because I'd like to see this come back, too.

I would like my dominated water elementals to speak in Aquan. This makes sense.

Mind if I hijack with a related question?

How do you project the chat to a summons? Rephrased, how do you make your summons talk on your behalf ?

i.e. Justice Archon : I hang around with this guy cause he supplies me with beer and swords. *thumbs towards the halfling mage*.

You select a language which makes the language chat window open. You then right click on your summon/animal companion/familiar/whatever so that you have them selected, then type in this separate chat window.

Language don't get translated like they used to, which is what this thread is about.

I don't play much for casters, but I doubt that summoned creatures would be up for conversation since if I recall they are all being focused to beckon and listen to the commands of the summoner. Though I may be wrong on the actual lore mechanics of such spells.

Though if used for companions and familiars might be more applicable.

This topic is a month and a half old at this point, but I'd like to bring it up again.

Recently, I've been RPing with an improved familiar, a Faerie Dragon. I have been loving the RP opportunities it has provided. Lore-wise, Faerie Dragons speak Draconic, Elven, and Sylvan. However, due to the mechanical limitations, my familiar can only speak common.

Now, for the Faerie Dragon, this isn't such a big deal. There are many, many ways to explain that she speaks common. Firstly, it's not unheard of for a Faerie Dragon to speak common anyway. Secondly, if they can speak three languages already, then it naturally follows that they could learn common. And so on.

However, there may be some who don't want to RP this way, or have familiars who can't speak common. Then there's the aforementioned summons, especially the Thaumaturge who has a bond with their summons.

I have no clue how intricate the language system is, or how hard it would be to make it so. But just something I'd like put on the table for discussion.

It makes more sense to include the summons into the talking monster project https://wiki.bgtscc.net/index.php?title ... g_Monsters
