Ways to Slow Down a Monk

Unread post by Skarain »

Hello. have a Monk. I do enjoy the class but at times, when roleplaying specifically, the Monk's increased movement speed is causing some problems when you are trying to "RP walk" next to someone.... and you move double their speed (at least).

Are there ways to 'nerf' the speed temporarily?

I know equip any armor would to the trick, but as a pure-monk, i don't have the armor qualification feats.

Don't assume there is any other way you could toggle it off?

Regards,

that's a really good request.

could be like the illumination toggle. there are other class/race combos that could use this as well.

I +1 this. I had this same problem on another server forever. In fact, nobody even knew I was playing a monk until the monk speed got too noticeable, and then everyone knew. Blew the whole mystique right out of the character. Up until then, everyone kept asking: "Hey, what classes are this guy, anyway?" It was awesome.

tl;dr: Stupid monk speed...

There are ways to slow fown your character, one of which is just carrying enough stuff to be moderately overencumbered. You know, just stock up of healing kits or something... Or does that break some monk abilities?

Other is spells like Foundation of Stone, if you find a druid master alchemist you could buy a ton of potions to keep yourself slowed and immune to knockdown.

I wonder how hard it would be to have a 'Set Move speed to 100%' (Aka normal) feat Monks could activate? Seems like it might be a really useful Quality of Life thing for monks and if easy to implement no real downsides to it.

Well, based on how monk speed is based on a feat, you just need another feat to reverse its effects until rest.

Same as for any speed toon, either weight it down and/or hit tracking/detection.

Monk isnt that bad honestly, try an elven ranger or wilderness stalker built for speed (autotrack and autodetect).

In that case you just need to get the habbit of only moving with 'Shift + Mouse Click' ...
